Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Good post. Suppose we would find ourselves in a bit of a Liverpool situation if a top player suddenly thinks the grass is greener and can still realise £70m plus for any of our guys to replace with sufficient quality. For me, Mahrez is a steal in that regard.

As the squad stands, unless you sell crown jewels such as Sane or De Bruyne, which just ain't happening, you move to the next tier down and it's players such as Sterling who bring in the dough.

Getting no money for Sergio, like Yaya, could ultimately come back to bite us on the arse at some point in the future.

Mbappe turning us down twice was a killer :(

If we had funds for Mbappe why can't we use them to secure Kuns replacement in 1-2 years? 200m would have earmarked surely.

I would disagree. By stating you are waiting till after the wc would tell the club he will be expecting better terms as he will be showcasing myself to the world

Just to be clear, are you suggesting that their delay tactics weakened their negotiating hand?

Perhaps this is the season when this seemingly common line of thinking actually becomes apparent and obvious I suppose.

Yes.
IMO, he was at his strongest negotiating point before the world cup and coming after the season just played. Informing the club he would wait until after the wc before negotiating a new deal was him saying I want a much better deal and will use the WC to strengthen his case. It was a risk he didn't need to take. And, looking at the quality of the England side, it was a risk he and his agent should have known was not likely to come off.

Fair point.

This decision to delay negotiations however came last December, according to reports at the time.

Another angle (unlikely) is that Sterling wasn't happy with his standard last season and wanted a further opportunity to sell his wares.
All we can do is speculate and await the eventual outcome

Or...he simply wanted no distractions in the lead up to the world cup?

Where's the queue of elite clubs trying to grab Sterling? Nowhere near good enough for Barcelona or Real Madrid. Possible Bayern or PSG interest? Anywhere else is a step down

He’s deluded if he thinks he deserves De Bruyne wages and status! Scored a lot of goals yes but besides Southampton and possibly Bournemouth the rest were Tap ins set up by the rest of the team!

You have to be in the right place at the right time to get tap ins, jeez

I think you can add the Everton home game as a very good finish.

Well, if he was hoping to use his World Cup displays to boost his contract value then it backfired a little.
He wasn't nearly as bad as the media said but he certainly didn't enhance his reputation with his performances.

He was damn good. Just not KDB good.

Then again, is KDB as good as KDB? (Actually, I've just trawled through the Best of the Best yesterday and today, taking my time, and yes, I'd forgotten, a bit. KDB really is as good as we think he is)

I hope everyone watches the season review DVD,he more than contributed to 100pts,only on here could we have a go at a centurian
He contributed massively to our last season and is one of the main reasons we kept our winning momentum going in the early stages of the year with his consistent late winners. He needs to produce another season like that to be considered on the level of Silva and KDB though and sadly, despite how good he has been in the last 12 months I still always have this nagging doubt when I watch him play whether he'll ever be genuinely elite. Whether he is a proper player. I think another strong season would put a lot of that to bed. He is out of order right now though if he is asking for DeBruyne wages off the back of 1 good season. I don't know the whole story though.
