Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

And all I am saying is that there are several factors he may consider (particularly when you are already rich) so when a player says he wants the best for his family, maybe that is exactly what they mean
Well I have to agree with you because nobody knows exactly whats going on, we and every other blue is just speculating because we all want him to sign that bloody deal.

Agents are always the biggest problem in these situations! Raheems stats have been amazing for the last 14 months granted, but the way the team has been set up allows Raheem to get into the positions at the right time to tap in the goals? No other team would do it the way we do and hopefully he bears that in mind

He is a great deal more than a tap in merchant. I hope he signs as he brings a great deal to the team.

Never said the phrase tap in merchant mate? That being said, how many times last season did we see De Bruyne or Silva put sane through who crossed for Raheem? That’s the plan executed perfectly by the team for peps set up and also Raheem for listening to pep regarding how he arrives in the box at the right time.

Bang on, not saying he’s not class but the reason he looks so good for us is because of city’s set up.

Agents are a lot of the time the scapegoats as people don’t want to consider it is there player wanting more money/ move.

I remember Ferguson blaming Stretford for Rooney, but at worst he would have devised a way of getting more money and Rooney would have made the decision.

So I don’t see Ward doing anything without Sterling say so.

It’s all speculation and no-one knows whether it is money or move. If it is money I think City are worried what it would mean giving him high money to Sane, B Silva etc. Is it a 1 season thing or has he turned into a 15-20 goal a season winger.

To me he looks like scoring every time he plays and I think one of our top players and at an age and home grown status he is one of our most important. However it is not out of the question one of Sane or B.Silva could start outperforming him at any point.

City made the decision to over pay hid current market value to get him at 170K a week, to get him from Liverpool. This means an increase to 200K does not reflect his improvement. I think the club are trying to rectify the overpayment at the time, based on knowing he is happy here and wants to work with Pep. Sterling probably feels it is unfair so is unwilling to sign. With every goal, good performance I think it puts pressure on City to offer more money as his end date gets closer.

You could say that about any number of players, and whilst it may be true in respect of the number and type of goals he's been scoring, the reality is that he is our most improved player and a menace to the opposition virtually every time he plays. His first touch has improved immeasurably, he gives the ball away far less under pressure, with soft arsed passes and dribbles to nowhere, than he used to, and this season even his finishing has been far more clinical - he's clearly been working on his erstwhile tendency to slap at the ball rather than put his laces through it, and he fully merits a pay increase. I'll hold my own hands up and acknowledge that he's improved technically, and in terms of his judgement, to a degree I never envisaged he had in him. The issue now is how much wonga he's prepared to settle for, and if both player and agent make unrealistic demands, I think he'll be out of here sooner rather than later. Certainly can't see the club getting bitten like it did when Milner dicked us around. Would be a shame if he puts greed over the opportunity to be part of something truly great at City

Just a quick glance at his England stats proves that and I think he's usually Englands best player (or up there). That said he does have to be in the right place at the right time to get his goals so it's not a case of anyone could do what he does.

This is why I'm relaxed about the situation. If he signs, we get to keep a player who already understands what Pep wants from him. If he doesn't sign, I don't think it would be that hard to find a replacement to perform the role Sterling does in this team. Pep and co will find a solution and who knows it might even improve us.

I personally don't think he is playing that type of game as that's fine whilst you are performing, does the pendulum swing if he has a loss of form?

For sure Sterling has improved but I believe personally Bernado is our most improved player.

I don’t think it’s a game, I think he is within his rights. You are correct a loss of form weakens his position, but maybe he backs himself.

I think his form would have to drop off a cliff for it to get the point where we would no longer offer the contract that we do today in the summer. So I think any risk is minimal in that respect.

The risk for Sterling for me is probably more to do with a long term injury (major ligaments, broken leg etc.). In that scenario not signing a £50 million+ contract when it was on the table would be a mistake.

Talk of City starting negotiations with both Sane and Silva.

Not sure if it has any impact on Sterling’s negotiations, but possibly wanting these 2 to commit before increasing the offer to Sterling.
