They won't.
We'll have to disagree, of course there will be a change in government relations, there already has been today, its clear that we're quite unhappy about it.

If they don't change their minds quickly, the deterioration will be significant, and if they do change their minds quickly, it could be stalled, but when he gets home and describes in detail how he was treated, it will still decline.

The stats you quote are all fine and well, and will continue, many people work there, and as you say many companies operate there, not to mention we have a military presence there as well, and they're unlikely to stop any of that, but it won't prevent inter government relations becoming strained imho.

The conclusion is probably correct, the poison is indeed in the water.

But so what? If the 'neutral' is bitter about the success then fine, it actually makes it all so much sweeter ...

No one likes us. We don't care.

Football is fucking huge buisness. Don't think that the battle for success is just fought on the field.
I have no doubt personally that whilst there is a sniff off smoke in the accusations of recent weeks, the real story is that this has been ramped up by every possible competitor or detractor of the club to cause as much damage as is possible. I think it has been a success to that end. The image and reputation of the club has been severly damaged. I don't understand our (the club official) lack of response to it, but i certainly do care about the circus of the last few weeks. I don't want City to be a club which everyone hates. I don't want our success tainted in any shape or form whatsoever, i don't want those who have fanned these flames which have burned us so badly to get away with it scott free.

It is a fuck up.

Lol,over the top much

I have been pleasantly surprised by how little attention the press has given the recent allegations. I also think EUFA would like it all to go away. I don’t know why but perhaps an understanding was reached when we paid the 20 million. Think we might be in trouble over the youth players though. Consensus seems to be a one year transfer ban compared to two years for Chelsea. We might have to pay over the odds in January for the one or two players we want.

If you're thinking along those lines, so that they look to contrast with the Iranian case, that's also in the news currently, it won't, they're unconnected.

He's been held without trial for 6 months, and by the sound of it, treated like shit by the UAE authorities, so even if they do suddenly release him, and send him home, there's going to be a lot of bad publicity to follow.

We have a lot of links with the UAE (as a country), and there is definitely going to be a significant decline in diplomatic relations over this, especially as we appear to have been given hints that he would be freed.

The media will take great delight at pointing more fingers at City over it sadly.

Yup, hard to see it panning out differently. Not good timing from our standpoint, but a fuck sight worse for poor Matt Hedges

All of it,we haven't been severly damaged, burnt badly or anything else,if we had the sponsers would be heading for the doors, the club will be preparing a legal challenge and they aint going to share it with you

Based on my interactions with football fans and media since the allegations began, I would have to disagree with you.
(Unfairly so) we are now labelled as cheats and financial bullies owned by a despotic blood thirsty state.

A large portion of football fans don't bother reading past the headlines.

Whether we, or you, believe Der Spiegel is irrelevant, its whether our sponsors do, and as they don't appear to have formed an orderly clue to leave after the DS leaks, it would suggest they couldn't care less.

I'd be much more concerned with today's news about the student Matthew Hedges being jailed for life in the UAE, and the possible decline of relations between GB and UAE as a result. There will likely be a backlash from the media, and I'm surprised that we haven't yet been brought into it somehow.
Nice try.

Kevin Maguire just called us out on Sky news. In relation to the guy who's been given a life sentence in Dubai
" these gulf states are all dictatorships and Manchester City sports washing their money"
"trying to give themselves a pretty good image"

Wow. How the fuck can he get away with that?

I'm only surprised it took this long, there will be more, and worse I expect.

With Abu Dhabi’s ownership of us, their internal problems are magnified in a way they wouldn’t be if they had no involvement in football. We’re City fans, not Abu Dhabi fans, but this is the sort of stuff we’re going to have to get used to but so are our owners. I’ve said before that they draw a line between media criticism of City and that of their country but the last few weeks have crossed that line. Be interesting to see how this goes.

Is luring him into an embassy beyond the pale?

From a football fans perspective you only have to look at any City match report or City related article in the media and read the comments below. What started with the odd rag troll after the takeover they are now awash with human rights abuse and dirty Arab oil money comments.
The more successful we are the more jealousy and bitterness we will see from rival fans which the media will gladly drive.

Approx 5000 UK companies do business with the UAE but it is only City that get called out for the UAE’s actions.
I get that we are high profile but I am sure there will be some well known names amongst the others that have ties with UAE.
