Foden has never startet a PL match, IIRC, and still being 18 and Gundogan fit again
I think WHU away is not the moment to change that.
Give him 20-30 minutes to get one AM off early.

David and Gundogan can start both WHU and Lyon.
Let's see, maybe Bernardo is ready for one or both matches, at least as a sub.

Kev won't be rushed in again, is what I hope. No need at all.

Don't think I've seen a single person say anything even remotely along those lines.

From your options mentioned, Delph and Zinchenko are needed to cover left back and diaz has never and likely will never play in a central midfield role. Assuming bernardo is out, that leaves us with just fernandinho, gundogan, silva and Foden for 3 key positions, if only in terms of numbers, it's leaving us short of options there. With arguably our best player this season potentially missing alongside last seasons best player in the same position, I don't think it's unreasonable for people to comment about it and suggest it leaves us weakened.

Nobody thinks the wheels are about to fly off, it's simply a talking point pre-match
You forgot Mahrez. Who is jutj as comfortable on the wings as he is in the middle

So do Delph and Zinchenko need to cover left back at the same time, or could one play there and one in midfield? Just asking. In addition to Foden we also have Stones and Kompany that could play in central midfield, as well as other young players. I think we will get by.

Phil Foden is ready. He will bring more to the team than Gundogon, and he's better than anyone he'll face in his position from the West Ham team. He should start if Bernardo doesn't recover in time.

I agree I'd like to see Foden start the weekend if Bernardo is out.
I’d like to see him start even if Bernardo IS fit! ;-)

Nothing wrong with giving Bernardo a bit of a rest, especially if he is a bit sore, but I think Gündogan is the natural right side replacement. I could see playing Foden on the other side of the field after about 60 mins, if the score is correct, and giving Silva another 2/3 game and some extra rest.

Winter is coming, and the rubber is about to meet the road. Come January, things should have shaken out a bit and the picture should be a little clearer than it is today. City will have played Chelsea and also Liverpool again, and the the busy Christmas season will have been completed....and we will hopefully have squared away a couple of signings for either the January window or the summer. Striker and CDM, with possibility of a LB, although I actually like our options right now and would prefer to push the boat out for the other two!

If Bernardo is out I’d like to think Gündogan is the ready mate replacement. Foden might be ready but he suits better from the left.
Other than that the team will be fine and we should have enough to beat WHU. Pellers won’t allow his players to park the bus so we might get some space upfront. Maybe Jesus gets the nod over Aguero for this one.

If we are looking at it realistically, Gundogan will start over Foden.

Only question mark for me is whether or not Sterling starts with probably the most important game of the CL campaign for us so far.

I think some posters are severely underrating Gundogan. I know it is tough because Foden is homegrown and Gundogan is the resident boo boy, but realistically there is a significant difference between the two at the current stages in their careers

Foden has an extremely bright future and will hopefully surpass Gundogan in the not so distant future, but right now it's Gundo for me.

I think anyone expecting Foden to start over Gundogan this weekend is going to be disappointed, but we'll see.

Totally agree as much as I like foden, gundo has to start over him especially away from home. His time will come but pep knows best and we can't really question him.

You’re right but at some point, Foden has to be given the opportunity to step up in games like this in order to improve. He won’t ever kick on if he’s restricted to starting 5 or 6 cup games a season.

Heading down to this but ticketless! What doesn’t anyone think the chances of getting two outside will be ?

Fair play to the West Ham fans, I think there has always been mutual respect, and whilst there are the very few derogatory comments (you can count them on one hand), this Hammers forum is very respectful of City and about a City forum too. Very pleasurable reading... go on, give it a try.

I think foden will get his first start around the Christmas period.

With Delph likely at LB you'd assume Sane will start

Sane Aguero Sterling
Silva Gundogan
Delph Fernandinho Walker
Laporte Stones
Ederson

Muric, Danilo, Kompany, Zinchenko, Foden, Mahrez, G.Jesus

Assuming Ota and Bernardo aren't available.

Could have seen Ota starting over Stones for this one to combat Arnautovic's power so wouldn't be surprised if Vinny gets the nod.
