Great he’s been released.
People need to understand that if you go to any Middle East country you are going to be subject to a capricious Justice system that runs on the whims of those who really rule the place.
And then not go. And especially don’t go and ask dangerous questions.
I’ve a lot of sympathy for the UAE rulers. They are trying to modernise a country where half the population subscribe to primitive and extreme versions of Islam. They walk a fine line. Like the rest of the region the choice is modernising or fundamentalist Islamic dictatorship. There’s no unicorns abd rainbows option. Just look at Pakistan or Turkey’s ongoing slide into Islamic dictatorship.
I don’t look on the City Project as Sportswashing. Of course image building is a huge part of it but it also means they have something to lose big on. They want the project to succeed so cannot be casual with their rep.
Besides, while it is true our owners are part of the ruling elite, their family is not tbr one controlling the security services and what passes for a justice system. I’m certain that behind the scenes our owners have been going,
‘WTF are you assholes playing at?”
Bottom line - if you travel, work or live in The Middle East then understand the risks and behave accordingly.
