Good team but I'm disappointed Foden isn't starting. He plays the position we are missing men from. Mahrez doesn't play that position. I think it says a lot about how Pep sees him at this very point in time. Not ready for the first team.
I do hope its the occasion and that Foden does get a start in the league during the busy festive period.

I’d have like to see Foden start, but those who really have a problem with him not starting and Mahrez starting, how do you think our record signing would react to not starting a big game in favour of an 18 year old?

Phil’s omission from the starting eleven could point to a much larger chance of him starting this weekend, which I think is a much better fit for him: competitive match against opposition that know how to play football, but at home, so he’ll feel a bit more at ease, and if he makes mistakes the crowd can ensure he knows he’s supported (unlike tonight).

If Pep doesn't think he's good enough for a game of this magnitude yet, I don't get why that's so hard for people to accept. He's the best coach in the world, he knows what he's doing.

Lyon have beaten us once this season already and caused us plenty of problems in doing so.

Pep's priority is to get us finishing top of the group, this year more than any other we are in a position to win this thing and there is no reason to risk this in order to give Foden a start just because us fans would like to see it.

Put it this way, when the season ends what would you rather see on Pep's C.V.?

Gave Foden a start in a CL game and kept the posters on bluemoon happy.

Well since they normally play in different positions he shouldn't be too upset.

Yeah if this means he'll start against Bournemouth I'm all for it. Unfortunately I guess he'll go with Delph as #6 and Fernandinho in a more advanced position then.

I think most people wouldn't have a problem with it if Pep haven't told us many times how Phil is ready and that he feel so bad for not starting him.

Let’s face it this the CL we are talking about here not the check a trade trophy, we haven’t qualified yet and are facing the toughest team in the group away and yet some whinge like fuck when Pep decides to go with a team he thinks has the best chance to gain qualification. I wonder if the press didn’t use Phil as a stick to beat us with if there would be such a clamour to get him starting these type of games.

If you're think our whole campaign depends on whether Foden starts or not then you're talking shit mate. Personally I'm looking forward to see Mahrez in a central position. But I don't think we will be weaker if we played Foden instead of him.

If we really want to maximise the chances of Phil signing the contract extension, Txiki should just point him to this and his Player Performance threads.

Why are we all wetting our pants because Pep didn't throw an 18 year old into the lions den? If Pep says he's ready do you think he is lying because he started Mahrez. Or is Mahrez not ready too?

Whenever Danilo and Walker are available to play and Pep chooses Walker is it because Danilo is not ready? No! Pep is trying to give us the best possible chance to win away against a team that beat us at the Etihad. How fans cannot see this is beyond me.

If the two options were mutually exclusive would you rather he plays Foden or that we win?
