Makes absolutely no sense. Shouldn’t be more than 2-5 seconds at most based on normal data transmission speed and routing delay. Online streams are a bit different, though.

It's not going in a straight line though is it? It's Sky (as host broadcaster) beaming a digital signal through 30 or so satellites and then whatever servers etc NBC are using before going back to you, there's a lot of extra distance and routing as the signals won't go more than 100 miles in a straight line without degrading.
