Three title winning seasons have each been followed by a summer of low transfer inactivity or low quality reinforcements. Mancini wanted to boost the quality of the playing staff considerably but was let down by the Board who wasted money on a collection of bench warmers. He was disillusioned by this and was to be sacked at the end of that season. Pellegrini fared no better. Hampered by FFP, the Board wasted what money was there and signed Mangala. The less said about that transfer the better. Next stop: last summer. We all knew that Fernandinho was reaching seniors age and as the only specialist we had in that position, it was clear to most supporters that his successor was recruited. That did not mean he was to be replaced there and then. All it meant was for a recruit to be his back up for half a season while he was being coached into our style of play. Anyway, it never happened and it may well cost us. I hope not, but somebody high up, Txiki or above has let down Pep badly.
