Driving tour of Ireland

So, as usual at this time of year, the mind turns to holidays and we fancy a driving trip to Ireland. We have been to Dublin on numerous occasions but that’s it. Looking for advice from those that know Ireland well. Where would you recommend, what roads, where to stay, where is the best Guiness and pub music? Thinking a week should be sufficient. Likely to be Sept/Oct.

Dublin to Bray. Plenty of places to stay. Great walk up the big hill at the end of the promenade.

Guinness Lake is also near here. Stunning place.

Coast road to Kilkenny. Beautiful. Kilkenny is a lovely place. Nice castle, great pubs etc etc.

Continue coast drive to Cork. Weird place but a great bar in the Welcome Inn. They let you pour the black stuff. Blarney Stone is near. In Blarney Castle.

Head south to Kinsale and then old head.

We then flew back after a wedding but the West coast drive is stunning from here onwards.

You can do much worse than the West. Only thing being is that it will most likely be pissing down at that time of year.

September might not be too bad but October will be miserable. But you can never tell. If it’s an Indian summer then the road to Dingle is spectacular. (Lovely beach on the way too - Inch)

And again if you have the weather, the ring of Kerry with Killarney as a base so you can walk up beyond Torc waterfall, around Mucross and Ross castles. All great days out if the weather is kind to ya. But it’s unlikely to be unfortunately - cos it’s evil. ( sure we can pray for a tad more global warming)

We did this a few years ago. Got off the ferry turned left and followed our senses. Didn't have anything booked and stopped at places we liked the look of. Ended up in Kilmore Quay in Wexford first night and then followed the coast to Cork, Kerry, Clare and ended up in Galway and finally Connermara which is fantastic scenery and was my favourite place. Stayed in Clifden.
