Pneumonia

Surprised no-one's mentioned that it depends what sort of pneumonia it is.

If it's viral (as opposed to bacterial) pneumonia, it's nothing like so serious and antibiotics won't do anything to shift it either. If this is the case, then there's not much more you can do other than just rest and wait for it to clear up, which will probably be around a week or two and then you're back to work etc.

But that said, I have no idea how OP has self-diagnosed that they may have pneumonia in the first place, so agree with all the advice here that they should go and see a quack asap.

Its a bit like flu's and colds, viral pneumonias can be very serious and bacterial pneumonias minor. However as viral and bacterial pneumonias may be very difficult to tell apart antibiotics would probably be used anyway.

There shouldn't be a single Dr in the UK who would prescribe an antibiotic for pneumonia, if they didn't know which type it was.

This, unless they are literally on deaths door and time is of the essence they do tests first
This is not true most GP's will give antibiotics and not do any tests , in hospitals they will give antibiotics and run a few tests.

The wife’s cousins husband ( I know complicated) is now in icu, he had a bug, turned into pneumonia called an ambulance and has now had a heart attack in hospital. Get yourself seen to quick before it kills you.

Has he life insurance:)

They don't dish out antibiotic for everyone presenting with a chest infection,if they think it's pneumonia they will send them to hospital as if they make the wrong call the patient can be toast

Sigh
GP's treat a lot of pneumonias in the community empirically with antibiotics.

You need chest X-ray to see patch...you should go to doc as complications can make it worst ...my dad had it ,so telling you
