TV Series

Just watching the Sweeney on ITV4. Laughing remembering how our heroes car always hits a pile of empty cardboard boxes but if the villains drive an aged Austin Cambridge or jag you know that will be rolled or smashed into a wall very soon ha ha ha - much like the security guy wearing the red shirt in Star Trek the original series. If it was an actor you didn't know he was clearly going to die.................

Glad to see I wasn't the only one disappointed with Luther./QUOTE]
I'll probably watch all of the Luther episodes - but the plot is really over-the-top - extremely so. It's simply not believable.

Contrast Luther with The Wire - everything that happens on The Wire seems absolutely believable. After watching any particular season of The Wire - you can absolutely relate to many of the characters appearing in that season - they are wholly believable, relateable - real.

As a result, The Wire commands an emotional, empathetic investment into each of its characters - whereas - Luther is interesting - and you may route for some of its protagonists - but its devoid of the attachment that a realistic series can invoke.

I'm finishing up my binge watch of Major Crimes - the successor series to The Closer.

If you haven't seen either series - start with The Closer - give it a couple episodes though - I watched the first episode of The Closer when it first aired and found the entire thing wholly unbelievable - and consequently didn't watch a single episode while it was airing.

Due to high ratings though - I began watching The Closer on Amazon Prime - the first episode was again unbelievable - but I stuck with it. I'm glad I did so - as the characters grew on me.

The same sort of thing happened when Kyra Sedgwick - The Closer's protagonist - left the series - which was then renamed/relaunched with much of the same cast, as "Major Crimes."

At first - I did not appreciate Mary McDonnell - she seemed sort of wooden - but, she, and the series as a whole grew on me.

The Closer/Major Crimes is definitely among my favorite TV series. It's beyond me why Major Crimes was cancelled this past year in spite of high TV ratings.

Finished series 3 of Unforgotton last night. Started slowly and took me till episode 4 to really get into it, but really enjoyed it.
