Ben Chilwell

They'll ask for £80m .. might end up settling for around £70m + add ons and the player will have to agitate for the move (its Leicester). That's the market & there's a premium cos he's homegrown. Other clubs also know if they can tempt the player with a big wage offer, we we'll only offer so much in wages. TBH I agree with the wage structure at City, especially when we're talking about young, relatively unproven players they can't come in on silly wages. I dont think it was anything to do with wages the fooked up the Jorginho deal though, i just think we were trying to get one over the Napoli president, driving the transfer price down but he had the last laugh....

looks the next luke shaw to me. would rather us bring back angelino or take our time scouting out a better option.

Not worth anything like that amount even allowing for being home grown

Well I dont know about him. There is the example of Andy Robertson from Hull to Liverpool for 8m pounds and look at him he could be solving Liverpool LB problem for next 5 years or longer.

But this Chilwell guy doesnt look half as good imo as Walker did for Spurs in his best seasons. And certainly would command similar fee. If we ready to splash the big cash then bring in proven quality or world class potential. IF we want to gamble on some young talented LB then 20m enough maximum and get the fucking scouts to look around all top leagues at least. I am sure there are LBs on Chilwell level not costing same as he is.

This more than 100m spent on Mendy+Walker so far didnt pay out as I hoped.

20m can buy you an unproven kid these days, I'm afraid. We're selling kids who barely or never played for first team for 10-15m.

How many other top top clubs have a clear opening for a first choice left back currently?

Liverpool - They won't be in for Chillwell having Robertson already
Spurs - Rose and Davies both contracted until 2021
Chelsea - Alonso contracted until 2023, Emerson until 2022
Arsenal - Kolasinac contracted until 2022, Monreal out of contract in the summer
United - Shaw contracted until 2023, Young out of contract in the summer

Looks like we have a decent shout

Please no to a big money bid for Chilwell…..there has to be better options just do some fucking scouting !!!

There are very few viable fullbacks around - it’s a woeful era for them. Mendy and Walker cost £50m each and are in reality flawed.

Chilwell would be the best option, but not at the price Leicester will now want; he was quality against us in the Youth Cup in 2015, then was the time to sign and develop him, rather than waiting for him to become what he has now, and pay a premium price to acquire him. City logic, embodied.

The other one within the league would be Ben Davies - he’s solid and tidy in possession, and is more comfortable with the handbrake on with little obligation to overlap, which would be perfectly balanced with Sane on the left side.

I bet there are several full-backs who are as good as Chilwell, it's just about scouting and/or recognising them just as others have done in recent years, Mendy and Robertson being prime examples. What's the betting a Premier League club buys a left-back for reasonable money and within a season we're linked and quoted a big fee. We were linked with Stones under Bobby Manc for a fee of 1.5-2 million and then guess what? You pay 50 + million for a full-back and there is very little room for error.....look at the posts about Walker and Mendy on here

I think the jury is still out re Mendy. I don’t think we have seen enough of him yet.
Walker needs taking out of the team in my opinion for a rest and recharge as he hasn’t played well recently

They're not "flawed" they just find it very difficult in Pep's system where they're expected to be attackers as well as defenders, and very few FB's would find it easy playing it. Its the most difficult position to play in a Pep system.

Sometimes midfielders too, think that’s the bit Mendy most struggles with. Though he was starting to get it before this lay off though.

fulham kid would've been a good shout. shame he will likely end up at liverpool. a versatile little player who likely could become an elite left back in this era.

It’s important to be able to rotate our full backs, while maintaining a high stand. Walker is knackered, he's played more football than most and the demand has taken its toll. Even with 4 quality full backs, you can't rule out the chance that two, or three are injured at the same time. The current situation stems from a the delays in replacing Zab,s AK, Micah and Clichy. Waiting for Pep also delayed the decision, but yet again, we do poor business in the transfer windows after winning the league.

Walker flawed? Are you tripping? He was immense last season, he's running on empty at the minute and when you are out of sync your touch, your positioning, your passing, it all goes out the window.
Are you wumming saying he is flawed? Seriously.
