Weird they never took any other batters with them so had to play Jennings who shouldnt ne anywhere near this test team ever again a braindead batsman who never learns.

Fucking wank beyond belief, Jennings is a feeble opener, Root at four is starting to seriously piss me off it’s time he got stuck into the three slot

I don't really understand why anyone would want to sacrifice the best batsman in order to cover for shortcomings elsewhere. Root averages 40 at number 3 and over 50 elsewhere.

digging in at the last test is not good enough and shows really that this tour was just a summer break for the players and coaches

so many questions need answering and the ashes will be up before you know it and england will go back to same old and hope jimmy and broad can swing it round corners and part time spin moeen ali can nick a test match on a 4 innings pitch ?? not looking forward to the ashes and got this feeling that we will get bashed

The ECB are desperately hoping that will be enough too, and maybe people won't be asking all those difficult questions.

England are stuffed once Broad and Anderson finish. The only genuinely quick bowler on the horizon is Archer, and he ought to be in the West Indies team.

All of this is a result of deliberate policy. Sidelining the red ball county game to the margins of the season means medium pacers thrive, batsmen don't learn good technique and spinners don't have a prayer.

And when they go abroad and are faced with a pitch that has any pace in it, they don't know how to cope. Stuffed in Australia, stuffed in the West Indies. But slow and low (all the home pitches) and against moderate Asian opposition (Sri Lanka) they have a chance.

That people react with surprise to this is the only surprising thing.

Another loose shot at a widish ball, not sure he's good enough for Lancs, never mind England.

To be fair to Jennings, last season he was by far the best batsman in a Lancs side that by and large batted dismally. In the County Championship, he averaged over 47 with three tons. That average was ten more than his next-best team-mate and pretty creditable in general in a season of poor scores all round the country.

He's obviously failed to cope with the step up to Test standard, however, and looks simply hopeless at that level. But unless he's mentally shot after his England experiences, he should play an important part for Lancs next season, when promotion really is a must.
