League Cup Final Post - Match Thread

it goes to show where we are as a team that teams like chelsea feel they have to set up with a vitual back 8 or risk getting hammered by us

they had no shots on target and their only outlet was hazard who trouble anyone at anytime

they killed the game rather than we were poor

well done boys first pot in the bag

Agreed. Due to our more draining midweek game they set out to stifle us for 70 mins, and then have a go in the last 20 when they knew we’d be tired. To be fair to them it nearly worked, to be fair to us we would never play like that. One grumble - when the team are celebrating winning the trophy why put up a huge fucking carabao banner blocking the view of thousands of City fans? Commercialism gone mad. Fucking horrible drink it is too

So another myth well and truly busted. Don’t give Stirling time to think or he will fluff the chance.
Brilliant penalty by Raz and he with Bernie were our best players. Shout out to Zink as well. That young lad never lets us down. Hope Laporte and Fern are back with us soon. Is this going to be our season?

There is a lot being made of their keeper not coming off but I didn’t see his number put up on the board by the 4th official so in my eyes he didn’t refuse to come off but more was saying I’m ok
It was put up. I was behind the dugout- high up and they held up the board.

If we are brutally honest, that was a piss poor performance and we only got a result because of an equally poor performance from the opposition who looked like they just didn't want to get thumped again. As a one off, we can take the result and move on, particularly in finals which are often cagey, but when it's followed on from a handful of similar performances albeit with us getting the result in the end it's becoming a bit of a concern. Too much sideways LVG-esque pointless passing and not moving the ball quick enough to create space and thus chances. A revert back to our classic formation with sterling on the right and Sane on the left is needed for us to get back into our groove I think. Thats enough negativity though, I'm sure Pep will sort it and regardless of the performance we've just retained the league cup and are now the second most successful side in the competitons history (what's that?)
WTAF?

Brilliant day, great result. Ref was a disgrace. One question. How come we all had a flag to wave but I did not see any at the Chelsea end?

"Lottery win" ?
Look at the stats, won on points before the penalty shootout and if the ref had done his job on the 'sendings off' it would never have reached that stage.
Serious question, who should have walked? Didn’t notice any obvious red cards inside the stadium?

A forearm smash on Sergio in the first minute and numerous fouls on Sterling and Silva should have merited numerous yellows. Mind you, another ref might have penalised Kev Junior when he clashed with Kante in the box.
Cheers. I saw Sergio holding his face but didn’t see what happened, thought they VAR’d it (mind you VAR doesn’t couldn’t with that cheating turd Atkinson, who saw no pen and red card for Young on Sergio last season)

Great to get the trophy again and a great day out. Thought the game was poor to be honest with us offering very little in the final third. Can't really afford many more performances like that or I fear that may be our only piece of silverware. Anyway good to get that first one in the cabinet.

Never in any doubt when Raheem stepped up with the chance to win it? Right?...

Wasn't nervous at all...

Watching it back early this morning. It makes me sick that elbow to Kun in the first seconds. If one of our players had done that, it would be on the big screen and Sky loop 24 hours calling for a public execution. Disgraceful. I thought that sort of intentional harm would be punished, I suppose that’s only if you’re City.
Moss did just about everything he could to keep their players on the pitch. If we had committed those fouls, we would have been straight off.
