Schalke Post Match Thread

Superb result and some wonderful football from our boys.

Regardless of how Shalke played, they were in the CL for a reason & as Pep says every team can pose a problem - not that City noticed :)

But fantastic night :)

Even the ref seemed annoyed by the length of time it was taking to reach a decision.
 
Fantastic win by the boys tonight with a great score line that didn’t look like at all likely after 35 mins.
Big concern for me was the officials timekeeping. With a VAR review after every goal ( one lasting 2 mins 45 secs ), 6 subs, 7 goals, 12 goal celebrations ( thanks to the wait for VAR) we had the grand total of 2 added minutes over the whole game!!
What happened to accurate timekeeping? Is it right that a referee can “take pity” on a team suffering a spanking?
What about the paying public, who have paid to watch 90 mins football? What about the millions of £’s put down on score betting?
Questions have to be asked. Is this a UEFA directive? we only ever seem to have NO added second half time in European matches, it has happened before but can’t remember the game(s)
Maybe, for a change, UEFA, and its officials, should be investigated?

We had about 10 sat next to and behind us in 214/215 right next to the away fans. In seats that are normally season ticket holders but people not in the cup schemes. All of the Schalke in there were ok and had a good chat and laugh with them. One told me they got their tickets through friends living in Manchester. They were ok but you are right that if it was a different team or scoreline then would be different. The daft thing was that at the back of the Schalke section there were enough empty seats for the stewards to lead this group through to sit in their own section, but stewards wouldn't do it or have the remit to allow it.

I saw a group of about thirty youngsters walking up the spiral at Entrance J. As they walked up some were singing Schalke Schalke, took a look and a couple of them had rag shirts on!

I thought I might miss out on a ticket for Schalke away so I explored the possibility of going in the home section so I can moan when they do it BUT, to have an entire block of 30+ must mean the tickets are coming direct from the club or an authorised seller. As you say the potential for trouble cannot be exaggerated. At present we could get the Rags, Dips, Juventus, all of whom would cause mayhem if they had 30 people singing and cheering throughout. Uefa love to punish us and they would hammer us if there was a mass scrap because the club failed to segregate fans because of how they allocated the tickets.

Totally agree. I was in my season ticket seat in 326 last night and it felt like being in the away end. Would not like being in the same position surrounded by Rags or Dippers.
I'd be up for moving to another part of the ground on CL nights, but the club don't give us that choice.

Never fear. When we played the dippers last season there was little, if any trouble due to the demand for tickets from home fans.
 
You don't concede 7 if you're playing well but you don't score seven unless you're playing exceptionally well. We were superb.

The timekeeping was ridiculous. Two minutes stoppage time at the end of the first half was nonsensical but NO stoppage time after a second half of god-knows-how-many VAR checks, substitutions and an avalanche of goals defied reason and can only be seen as a totally unacceptable act of mercy. The ref looked fed up to the back teeth with the endless VAR pratting about and it quite clearly infuriated the crowd. Trust UEFA to make yet another cock up.
