The ‘empty seats’ myth peddled by Liverpool supporters

Liverpool fans are the new United fans.
Liverpool fans are the new Arsenal fans.
They only hate City because City are the only club stopping them winning the title and trophies.
As such, they will try and belittle City at every opportunity.
Empty seats, Petro dollars, buying success, plastic club and fans, blood money, no history, financial doping, FFP cheating, no atmosphere at the Etihad, etc, etc.
Every jibe already trotted out by United and Arsenal fans over the last 10 years.
It will continue as long as City continue to win trophies at Liverpool’s expense, and keep on extending their long #istory without winning a trophy and the title.

surely as a proper working class club with socialist beliefs they would never mock any clubs fan's who are possibly legitimately unable to afford to see the game.

I hate United with a passion. But I pity you for having the shower of shit that is their fan base and ex-players in the same city.

I hate United with a passion but Liverpool fans are the Clinkers hanging from United`s collective arse.

This is very true. They’re having the best season in their history, in terms of points total

Next season with VAR and without their incredible good fortune with injuries and reffing decisions, there’s every chance they could be nowhere near us again... and is if by magic we won’t live rent free in their heads anymore

Aaand breathe.....;)

The daft thing is, most of those doing the criticising don't go to matches themselves or don't come from a local working class background either. Should we be bothered by it? To be honest, we shouldn't. Most true football fans know the issues of juggling cash when it comes to matches, but City having such a good side these days will always make us a target for something. It's mad really because our fanbase was praised up and down the country for turning up in numbers when we were in the 3rd tier but because we don't have anything like the same numbers of out of towners, tourists, etc, that United and Liverpool have to take up the slack if several thousand of our regular match-goers choose to give the FA Cup semi final a miss this time round due to the number of fixtures and potential fixtures that lie ahead then we get pelters for it in some quarters.

And despite all those OOT'ers and tourists who follow United, it's interesting to note that the FA Cup semi-final between Everton and United 3 years ago saw Everton sell out their allocation yet United didn't.

We were speaking to a family of 4 with 2 kids and they were saying trains, tickets & hotel as they didn't want to risk last train being massively overcrowded as one of the kids was autistic set them back over £800, after picking my jaw up they explained 4 tickets @ £120 less the massive £20 discount for 2 kids £460, £230 train and £109 hotel. Once they add in food programmes etc the semi final has cost them more than as their 4 season tickets!

And that’s the realty that a lot of people just don’t see.

It is, but those too stupid to think about that aren't worth bothering with. You don't have to be the kind of person who follows City or anyone else home and away to all parts to understand that there's going to be a serious cost and time element to it, you just have to have a couple of brain cells and not have your empathy gland removed.

As someone pointed out. Liverpool and United have a core (as we do) of supporters who go to home matches.

They both also have a legion of daytrippers and Out of towners, as confirmed by various events - Liverpool the ash cloud crowd, and the United fake bomb scare crowd.
This is due to fairly recent history (the 60's onwards for United, the 70's onwards for Liverpool) - more mobility of population looking for work, more cars etc, and of course the temptation of following a team that is winning the shiney stuff. If we continue this current period of success, then City (as mentioned by many other threads) will continue to grow the young 'new generation' of supporters, just like United, Liverpool did earlier, and Chelsea have done more recently.

I'd also say (judging from observation, rather than hard fact) that the core Liverpool support are closer to the core City support in terms of the majority demographic of match going fans - 'working class', poorer, local, than the legions of the Cheshire set that pour into Old trafford.

This money helps supporters get to the ground and away day events - obviously.
So,again, as another pointed out, it's not realistic for many of the core City fans to spend on every season multiple trips to wembley (amazing to remember the 90's...), as it's a long bloody expensive trip from Manchester for them. Compare to the matchday migration North from London for United (and to a lesser extent Liverpool), it's a doddle and far cheaper to just hop on a tube to Wembley.

In time, a generation, possibly 2, then we'd end up with the same demographic mix as United and Liverpool - spread out, richer... but hopefully (please!) not so bloody arrogant and entitled.

The more successful we become there will be less space for traditional local fans, it's happening now to some degree and it's going to get worse. In a way this is a positive downside to success because we most definitely will lose our soul in the end and become as plastic as the clubs we look down upon now, Gone are the days of curry and chips after the game, sneaking in at half time, it's a carefully controlled coiffured experience corporate and safe.

The only way to stop this getting worse is to not have success, drop down the divisions and experience the raw value of lower league togger.

Absolutely spot on.. The 5.30pm kick-off time compounded difficulties people face when making arrangements to get to games like this at Wembley. Our costs/planning for trips for semi-finals and finals since 2011 have been slightly eased by the fact that we can stay at our daughter's home north of London. However, we still end up paying an arm and a leg over the weekend. The childish stuff regarding 'not selling out' from fans of the Red Filth and The Anfield Road Formation Brick Throwers' Society doesn't bother me. But I get mightily pissed off by people in the media (who dine freely at our table every home game at City) and 'Rent-a-Quotes' such as Kevin Phillips who make their sly comments and digs without any thought for the ordinary fans who get ripped off time and again by the FA, the clubs and the tv broadcast companies. Twunts the lot of them!
