The ‘empty seats’ myth peddled by Liverpool supporters

I just don't understand what oppo fans and the media want us to say. We just don't have enough fans who have enough disposal income to spare it going to Wembley as often as we do. Instead of having a pop at the fans, the media should be asking why is it so expensive, that normal working class supporters can't afford to go.

City fans are not the bad guys in all of this, it is the greedy football authorities who price out the fans and make it difficult for them to get there with absolutely ridiculous scheduling.

I found it funny yesterday when people were using the Watford and Wolves turn out as a way to mock us. Yet we took more fans to a 3rd division play off final than either of the 2 teams took to Wembley yesterday.

We can't magic fans with loads of money out of thin air. If the FA were not so greedy, we would not have returned any tickets.
It's not just the FA either mate. The cost of rail travel in this country is a fucking outrage. Difficult to see a family of four having much change out of a monkey to go to the game on Saturday. That's a big ask for many folk as was the kick off time in terms of guaranteeing being able to get back.

I guarantee the vast majority of those mocking the empty seats won't have been to Anfield/old trafford etc.. more than a handful of occasions at most, which renders their comments to be nothing short of comical. Do they not realise how preposterous that makes them look? Regular match going fans will more readily be able to identify with the struggles of attending this number of games for most supporters, because they actually...errr...attend games with some degree of regularity.

I do think we shouldn't get so worked up about it though. This board has a much higher proportion of match going supporters than RAWK or Red Café, for example, and Blues of a certain vintage (like you and I) have earned our stripes - included in which is the right to not attend every game if our personal circumstances don't allow.

Our turnout was fine on Saturday, anyway - and no wankstain who's been to Anfield twice is going to tell me any different.

Agree totally. As a Liverpool supporter I have this argument with EFC fans who accuse us of out of town support. Firstly if someone travels hundreds of miles to watch his team every week I would say he is just a good supporter, end of. Also if EFC get their new stadium then the club will try to attract the same support LFC do. City emulate United, EFC are chasing us and we are chasing Man Utd in my opinion. In all this the major clubs, Chelsea Spurs as well are moving away from the local lad going the match and having a pint before the game. They want the outside fans coming once or twice a year and spending big at the club shops, the more fans the better. We supporters are all in general the same and it is sad to see the bitterness from all sides, I have nothing against anyone from Manchester, London whatever, but I do want Everton to lose every game same for the rest and I expect the same, we all want to win and we all cannot. However this is the way it is and it will never go back.

How do your attendances in the European Cup, when you were winning everything, compare to ours, in the Champions League ?

There is no smoke without fire.

Liverpool haven't had less than 33,000 at Anfield for over 25 years. City had 33,000 for their carabao cub semi final in the year they are supposed to be chasing the quadruple. To put it into perspective Liverpool's lowest attendance over the last 2 years is 47000

So you use a Carabao cup match as the benchmark for City attendances then in the next sentence claim Liverpool haven’t had a attendance lower than 47,000 in the last two years...

If that’s the case then how do you explain the below attendance against Chelsea in the cup this season? (the only domestic cup match your fans had to pay for this year I hasten to add)

There may be no smoke without fire but the only thing I can smell burning is your bullshit...

Does anyone really care? Though I do get angry at pricks like Kirsty Gallacher laughing at working class fans who can't afford to get to every game, I'm not going to lose any sleep over anyone trying to poke fun at empty seats. We all know there are a handful of games we don't sell out each year, yet we still have some of the highest attendance figures in England. End of story.
It never bothers me really what folk say about empty seats, however ive just watched that viideo of Gallacher laughing at the City fan ringing up and explaining the cost involved and the amount of games. She comes across as a right ****, and even after that she's the fuckin cheek to retweet a post saying we never sold our allocation away to Fulham just to mock us, which was a fuckin lie.

At least shes getting ripped apart on the replys about her drink driving conviction, three times over the limit when she was off to pick her kids up

Piece of shit.

Yeah, I thought her response was reprehensible tbh, and shows someone totally out of touch.

Her adams apple is almost as big as her ego.

Absolutely bummed.

Liverpool and United have both capitalised on the demand for tickets for home games. Neither seem to want your average fan who will ruck up for the game and spend virtually nothing. So they make the game more exclusive and want someone who will come the odd game possibly a less attractive game and spend a few hundred quid on merchandise.

Statement of fact , we do not have as many supporters as the Rags of the Dippers , but we do have a hardcore of over 40,000 mostly local supporters , give me 40,000 genuine blues over the 40,000 plus 10,000 to 30,000 plastic out of towners/daytrippers that support the 'istree clubs.
All day long , Anfield & the swamp is like Alton towers & I hope we never become like them.went to Anfield a few years ago & the only scouser there was Steven Gerard !

Randomly found, with a single google:

‘Lowest Home Attendance 17,427 v Wigan’

And a couple of others that season less than 33000
http://lfcstats.co.uk/20092010attendances1.html

When you quote ‘facts’ (not beliefs) its best to have checked them.

Edit (due to fact checking...):
Currently can’t find that match report, but Wikipedia entry for Liverpool 2009/2010 season says 31000 at home for Reading in FA Cup https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009–10_Liverpool_F.C._season - so still bollox 25 years la

Also Crewe 28000 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008–09_Liverpool_F.C._season

And finally the 18, yes 18, home premier league Liverpool matches that have had less than 33k

As they say, there’s no smoke without fire....
