The ‘empty seats’ myth peddled by Liverpool supporters

Every "Liverpool fan" should listen to this.....

Agreed with this bloke especially his last point. However the clubs, officials etc are always going to want a nice free jolly to that London rather than a trip to say Sheffield or Manchester. But the London semis are still getting the big gates and it will only be if they are pulling in thirty thou regularly will it concern them. How northern supporters get home most probably does not come up much round the bar in a swanky London hotel. All the fans should boycott the games but this is never going to happen and surprise surprise the match going fan gets the sh***y end of the stick, again.

Just did a little research and would now like to put this silliness to bed. Source is soccerstats.com.

Our average attendance this season is 54,087 and on average the ground is 98.2% full.

Liverpool’s average attendance this season is 52,926 and on average their ground is 97.9% full.

Which is less full than ours. There are, as a %, more empty seats at their ground.

End of chat.
sadly, there is a flaw to your argument

Tickets sold does not necessarily equate to bums on seats

Dont know why but our empty seats are much more visible on TV. Somehow the empty blue sets are sticking out of the picture more than any other grounds empty seats.

If there is a sector with only two empty seats next two each other its easy to notice it quickly. It wouldnt be the case if all seats would be black imo.

I really don't understand this empty seats obsession some people have, and never will. Barcelona get plenty of empty seats at the Nou Camp, does that mean they're a tin pot, small time club, that nobody likes? Who cares.

Is there any truth to this Olympic Stadium vs Football Stadium theory? Or is it down to the colours making them stand out more?

Emirates Stadium capacity = 60,260
Emirates Stadium record attendance = 60,161

They're one of the only clubs that actually report bums on seats.
That wasn't the point of that post(my fault for posting before I'd finished). But a quick google told me they still have their empties.

At Arsenal, the official average was 57,054 at Emirates Stadium last season - 2,813 short of the 59,867 capacity - but the Arsenal Supporters' Trust claims the actual average attendance was about 46,000.

Oh and Liverpool fans will probably get their jollies over this:

I nominate this post for a prize

Let’s be honest, there are games like last week where there are only about 49000 in the ground but City say there are 53559.

What it shows is that we don’t have a sea of plastic nobodies taking up the slack when proper fans can’t make it/can’t afford it.

When the Icelandic ash cloud grounded all flights Liverpool played West Ham and got an attendance of 37697 because all the plastic nobodies couldn’t get there.

When United had to play Bournemouth in a rearranged fixture after a bomb scare post-poned the original fixture there were about 44000 there because all the plastic nobodies couldn’t get there.

We struggled to sell out our semifinal yesterday because we don’t have any plastic nobodies supporting us.

When we had a terrible season under Pearce our average attendance was 39000. Any club from any of the bigger cities all have around the same amount of core local supporters who they can count on within a few thousand of each other.

Nobody else matters because they are plastic nobodies. All these Southerners, Irish, Americans etc. who follow Liverpool and United don’t count. They don’t have a clue what supporting your local team through thick and thin is all about.
I felt like a little kid at Christmas when I read that Liverpool v West Ham fact, superb knowledge ! I can’t wait to see a couple of scouse acquaintances of mine.

I'm sure i read on here that City thought about removing a certain amount of blue seats and replacing them with black, as it wouldnt look as bad, i def read it somewhere, could and probably is bollocks.

Think a few reasons they stand out more compared to say the rags are it's lighter in the stands, blue is more brighter colour than red, the seats are both wider & taller and as a club we don't try to hide them.
