Next season it’s time to admit

I get the opinions of playing kids in the Carabao in future, but it could be all we win this season, at least it's a trophy. Better to win that than fuck all like the rags this season. Maybe better to get one in the bag to keep the yrophy haul ticking over.

True though, it and the FA Cup are distractions from the main prizes I guess. Nice day out at Wembers though.

There's not much doubt that in terms of how you're viewed by other fans, and remembered in the long run, the League and Champions League are what count.

But ... it's been incredibly bold and exciting of us/Pep to go for all 4, and with just a little more luck, we actually could have done it.

A domestic treble is still possible and would write us into the history books. Again.

I agree, it's been a monumental effort and well worth giving a go.

Not sure it’s this simple.
Football is a game of such fine margins.
If two pens had gone in, if a player was one inch in a different position, if a player didn’t fall in such a way to get injured .......
We should play to win every game

Well said, two missed penalties could cost us two major trophies, the margins at this level are incredibly slender.

Whatever happens in the next few weeks, this season we have been magnificent and it's been an honour and pleasure to watch.

We just lost to Spurs over two legs after resting players in the first game. Decisions, mistakes, misses etc will always happen. Making concious decisions to play a full strength team in an FA Cup game then resting some others for a CL QF game a few days later is within our control.

Fixture pile up isn't our biggest problem this season and we didn't have to rest players last week. Our approach to the game was plain weird and also our refusal to change things until the 88th minute was too.

Find it hard to believe Leroy Sane would need a rest. What the hell has happened there?

Our woeful defending last night has nothing to do with the domestic cups either.

I'm actually really proud of the way we've gone for everything. It could leave us with just the league cup which would be hard to take, but I think we've earned a lot of respect for how we've given it a go.

Last night was one of two ties.

The first tie we 'threw away' to rest players that had played in the FA Cup a few days earlier.

I get that some people don't like the CL and or that some want us to try to win every game and every competition. But if we have to rest players for a QF CL game then something isn't right and something has to give.

BTW There's nothing to say that Spurs wouldn't have scored again if there goal was ruled out. It was that kind of game and they were looking dangerous before they scored.
I don't think we threw the first leg at all and the team selection was not affected by the previous game , it was a particular team for a particular game which went wrong.

That the quadruple isn’t going to happen and play reserves and youth players in the two domestic cups. It’s been a heck of a ride and something the club can be extremely proud of.

But we cannot put ourselves in a position again where we play a full strength team in the FA Cup one day and have to rest players a few days later in a CL quarter final.

I know how some will react to this post, especially those that dislike the CL. But when domestic cups become detrimental to success in bigger competitions then something has to give.
Utter bollocks

Personally, i don't think i'll ever get bored of winning trophies, no matter what they are , i don't want us to ever bin off the chance of winning League cups or FA cups.
I realise that means extra games and i don't know the answer to player burn out but that's just the way i feel.
Domestic cups were important when i was a kid ( the FA cup seemed even bigger than the League) & now i'm in my 50's they still feel important to me.
Maybe if i was younger and hadn't had decades of not winning a thing then i'd have a different opinion and see things differently

We were a nats bollock of going through last night and we would all be saying Peps brilliant, the quadruple can’t be done because of the league, when united won the treble they were 2 mins from losing it, like us last night but the luck went their way, the league is far more competitive now and energy saping. The choice is league or champions league, the domestic cups have been quite easy really in opposition terms. We just have to win the league now or all this juggling of the squad will have been for nothing.

And what happens when we throw away 2 trophies if we fail to win the PL or CL? A trophyless season. I don't give a fuck if it's the League Cup or whatever it is, it's great to see us win anything and if we don't win anything fair play but I never ever ever want to see the club I support think they are above certain trophies.

I thought the Spurs first leg was partly chosen in view of de Bruyne coming back from injury, and not risking losing him for the run-in. Add in Bernardo being injured, and Mendy only just playing again, and I'm not sure what else there was.
The delay in bringing on de Bruyne and Sane was poor though.

I understand that - but we don’t see how things are in training; what the managers and coaches see. And at the elite level mistakes,
moments of genius and small pieces of fortune play a huge part. The team v Newcastle was pretty much full strength but that didn’t lead to a win
