Peterloo Massacre 200th anniversary 16th August

Stand ye calm and resolute,
Like a forest close and mute,
With folded arms and looks which are
Weapons of unvanquished war.

And if then the tyrants dare,
Let them ride among you there;
Slash, and stab, and maim and hew;
What they like, that let them do.

With folded arms and steady eyes,
And little fear, and less surprise,
Look upon them as they slay,
Till their rage has died away:

Then they will return with shame,
To the place from which they came,
And the blood thus shed will speak
In hot blushes on their cheek:

Rise, like lions after slumber
In unvanquishable number!
Shake your chains to earth like dew
Which in sleep had fallen on you:
Ye are many—they are few!

Worsley mentioning it in this thread has reminded me to bump this as we do every year @Mad Eyed Screamer maybe edit the title possibly too

Sunday August 19th the 199 aniversary memorial will be held as with previous years for anyone wishing to go

This deserves more national coverage than it will get.

Are there any planned events for it?

I go to the memorial every year at St Peters outside the g-mex.

The main campaign website with all info on events

http://www.peterloomassacre.org/campaign.html

Maxine peake John Henshaw and Christopher Ecclestone show up mostly and do readings and the Poem.

The campaign are pushing for a permament memorial, and have funded one which I think is being unvieled this aniversary the council have dragged their feet though over it.

The locked doors on the titanic , should be compulsory reading, as should the "whitewash" that cleared the company of any culpability. If there had been women and children at Orgreave the outcome would have been as terrible. Only religion has killed more than far-right policies,

It should be part of the school curriculum. The events on that day play more of a point in life than knowing all the kings and queens.

We were asked for ideas for a permament memorial and I said then and say now the G-mex should be renamed the Peterloo Memorial Exibition Center, it is seconds away from the original Peters Field and would stand as a prominent reminder.

Also love to see how the tories could hold a conference in a building remembering those that died at the repression of their own PM of that time Lord Liverpool, though the shameless cunts wouldn't bat an eyelid if they did

The miners’ strike had fcuk all to do with principles and everything to do with muscle flexing on both sides. In such circumstances, may the best man (or woman) win. Scargill flew too close to the sun and Thatcher sent the cnut crashing to the ground, never to reappear. Happy days.
