I might be wearing my blue specs, but if the rags, PSG and Bayern are the only clubs willing to pay the price, I would be confident that he picks us

If you play in that position and you're Spanish, then the pull of Guardiola must count for more than most. I feel confident on this one.

Plus the rags are shite and PSG and Bayern win the league easily every year, but are nowhere near good enough to win the CL

I can't remember, was it doubtful? If you're trying to figure out if I'm ITK, the answer is no.
No, I mean there's a possibility of Rodri extending and staying in Madrid, like Laporte in 2016. Too early to be confident on this one.

Guillem Balague, kiss of death

AS article implies Atletico are well aware of how low his release clause is and will improve his terms amid foreign interest to pay the fee - also reiterates that the player is happy & wishes to continue

This is the concern I had when this rumour first surfaced, it never seemed plausible he would leave his boyhood club so either Pep will convince him or the player will get improved wages & bigger buyout fee

Think that would kill any chances of us signing him tbh. €70m is very doable but if he signs a new contract it will be at the very least doubled.

It says Pep will convince him or he'll sign a new deal.

No one suggesting we'd try to buy him after a new deal was signed.

I saw that, I'm just saying I think we'd pull out if he signed a new deal. Hopefully Pep can get him on board.

I would still rather have Saúl. Rodrigo is very like Busquets, and I totally understand why he'd be so appealing to Pep, but Saúl is the spiritual successor to Fernandinho. The complete midfielder who's played as a 6, box to box, a number 10, even RB, LB and CB when needed and done well. He also has the same never say die attitude, the engine and pace, a smart head tactically and the habit of showing up with a special performance on the big occasion.

He's supposedly got issues with Simeone's defend defend defend outlook and would be available.

I think the point is that if he signed a new deal, he'd not be interested in moving anyway, so there'd be nothing to pull out of.

Honestly haven't seen him play ebough.
Has the right attributes on paper but football isnt played on paper - just take a look at jorginho.

Honestly, and this a bit left field, but I want brozovic. He is like milner but with skill. Never stops running, good passing range, and can play anywhere in midfield. I feel like he would be more of a spiritual successor to Fernandinho. I think Inter may be looking to build a team around him though.

Indeed but also predicated on whether the player has intentions to leave as it seems the player will clearly get better wages & higher buyout, regardless of the outcome

I've thought about that one too. An underrated player that would definitely be suited for our system. Got a shot on him as well

Players usually sign new contract and rise their buyout clause before City sign them.

It happened with Laporte & Fernando.
