Delighted to have added this iconic City match worn shirt to my collection but wondered of any blues could shed some light on Billy's career & life.

William Dale
Apps 271 Born Manchester 17/2/1905 Died Manchester 12/6/1987

Career,Hugh Oldham lads club,Sandbach Ramblers,Manchester utd,City ( december 1931-May 1938),Ipswich,Norwich city
retired during 2nd world war,was a fan of greyhound racing.
Billy joined city with Harry Rowley and Bill Ridding,plus a small fee going accross town to utd.he played in 2 FA Cup finals with city,gaining a winners medal in the 2nd (1934)
and followed up with a 1st division championship medal in 1937,playing in 36 of 42 matches as a partner to Sam Barkas.One of the best uncapped fullbacks of his day,Dale was "cool and stylish ,quick in recovery and cultured in distribution "

As a trivia sideline to the above, Dale was succeeded as right-back by Bert Sproston, an England player, who had also started his career (like Dale) at Sandbach Ramblers.

A rather nice, if spooky, symmetry. (btw do Sandbach Ramblers still exist?)

Sandbach Ramblers merged with Sandbach Albion in 2004 to form Sandbach United.
