The Revolutionary Guard are virtually a state within a state. Perhaps they want to provoke a conflict for various reasons. Maybe it’s to establish their control over Iran fully & sideline more moderate elements. Or maybe they want to use a wider conflict to take military action against Israel, Saudi & the Emirates.Tell me, what does Iran gain from attacking those tankers?
As much as we should be cautious about Western motives, we should also take into account Iranian drivers for this.

But if they didn't do it then someone else did, presumably in order to try to force a showdown. And that's not a rational act either. I wouldn't trust either side.
