FIFA Women's WC France 2019

England could go far, especially considering the squad rotation. However, they’ve not really played anyone who are supposed to give them any problems and in the Round of 16 they will be playing a 3rd place team, which should be good for passage through to the Last 8.
Japan are one of the best 10 teams in the world (knocked England out in semi final last time), so tonight wasn't a given, and for most of the second half England were a poor second best, I think England ranked 3rd in the world are still over rated. Good result tonight with a changed team, but they got very lucky, they'll get through the next round, but it depends who they get in the 1/4 finals, I think unless they are at the top of their game, a good side will beat them, I also think he rotates the squad too much personally.

Very good first half, some slick passing and fluid attacking play.Second half we were second best as Japan stepped up brilliantly and played their best football of the tournament - Is our team struggling with fitness issues? Its not the first time we have struggled in the last half hour of a game.

Don’t understand why they’ve decided all of a sudden that penalties can be retaken after VAR spots that ‘keepers are off their line when it’s taken but Lloris being a yard off his line when he saved Sergio’s pen was absolutely fine

Because the rule changed on June 1st.
I know but it was never within the laws for a goalkeeper to be off his line when a penalty is taken, and if a penalty is saved because of it, that to me is a “major incident” or whatever that criteria is for something to be reviewed

If they're behind the line, its the same result, the new rule says one foot on it, they might as well just give a goal really.
This is insane, genuinely insane. Keepers have to generate momentum in order to stand any chance of making a save, so the sensible compromise would have been for them to just start a foot behind the line. That way they'd gain no advantage.

As you say, they may as well just award a penalty goal under this new rule as the keepers don't stand a chance.

VAR the way it is being employed at this moment in time is ruining football.

VAR is quickly going to kill the speed and fluidity of the game.

VAR will ruin the game. Said it all along. There's nowt wrong with the existing way - no VAR - talking points over a pint after the game. Instead it will be as bad if not worse than what we are seeing ................everyone who thinks the dippers and rags will no longer get the benefit of decisions but we will - think again. All clubs will need about 6 keepers as at least two will be suspended following a red card at any one time. Ref's won't make decisions - it will all end up with the square in the air but hey ho we will be getting the "right decisions" at last eh?

At that time I think it was only the 'handball' law change that was being brought forward following the fiasco they conjured up with the Otamendi 'handcornerball', which, in the second leg, the VAR wallahs and the ref failed to implement.

I think this retaking of pens is FICKFUFA's attempt to give VAR some legitimacy. VAR should deliver a result that reflects what happened on the pitch and teams win or lose according to that string of events. However, we have seen since its implementation a whole raft of VAR decisions that are clearly wrong. FICKFUFA seem to be of the opinion that a decision that VAR has delivered becomes the crown jewels of decisions. They seem to rule out that the VAR shed is populated by the same kind of whistling wanker that occasionally made complete howlers pre-VAR. The governing bodies will head down the path that delivers a game that is the sporting equivalent of homemade lottery ticket.

Well the Argentina keeper managed to save a penalty last night after keeping a foot on the line.
