No brainer we need one, despite them being extremely unpalatable to most, the technology to build nuclear weapons cannot be undone.. We need to retain the ultimate threat to preserve our security.. We are where we are unfortunately and there is no going back ..

I couldn’t agree more. Nuclear weapons have only been used twice and albeit it was sad that thousands of innocents were killed their deaths have probably resulted in millions of lives being saved in the last 70 years.

Humans have the technology, the knowledge, the means to make them, so even if there was total nuclear disarmament in the world, someone, somewhere, will have the means and the will to make another, and then THEY become the dominant military force.

Bringing a knife to a nuke fight rarely ends in your favour, just ask the Japanese Empire. Better to have and not need them, than need them and not have them.
