It's Quiet 32 - enter at own risk

The club must be supremely confident that Sane wans and will stay. it would be an act of utter stupidity to not replace him if he did go. to have the squad weakened and not do anything about ir would be crazy
This should be a completely uncontroversial opinion. I've been reading all summer how he's a £120m talent, to let someone like that walk and not replace him would obviously weaken the squad. How many times have we read about Pep's goal of having two compete for each position in the squad over the last few years? It would be stupid even setting aside a potential transfer ban.

The club doesn't seem that bothered about the incoming two window transfer ban then if they're just bringing in two players and are ok with others leaving with no replacement??

Plenty of wide options at the club already, suppose.

but only 2 true wide players in Sterling and Mahrez...the rest as awesome players as they are all better centrally and we lose something if they are not there, especially KDB and Bernardo
I certainly wouldn't want Fodden playing outwide...I think it would harm his progress if anything

Maybe they don’t expect a two window ban, even if they do the only ones leaving next summer are Silva who will wind down this season anyway and Fernandinho whose replacement will be here this summer. We can’t bring more than 2 in anyway unless we have sales as we have no where to keep them for a year.

Pep seems to think Bernardo is better wide.

Pep seems to think Bernardo is better wide.

just cause he picks him there doesn't mean he thinks he is better wide...maybe just better than the other option (Mahrez) and it enables him to play both silva and KDB as well. Bernardo along with his fantastic work rate and attacking threat is also about ball retention in very tight spaces and the ability to come inside (where he naturally looks like he wants to be).

the other option wide is of course Jesus.....he often drifts out wide left naturally and seemed to (before he came to us) play from that side anyway (not as a winger but a wide attacker)...but again Jesus is better centrally and will want to develop his role there

It’s where he starred at the World Cup to be fair. Also didn’t hinder Bernardo in his earlier years.

possibly but they are a bit different (Bernardo and Fodden).....again Bernardo's ball retention in wide areas and tight spaces is better (understandably) than fodden and I think he has that bit more physicality and experience to adapt better to the position...Of course they are both fantastic footballers and can play anywhere on the pitch (Just like Zinchenko)

Its about where Fodden is bet however (and Bernardo) and the rest of them for that matter....all are better centrally and none are true wide players......The only one who looks equally good in both wide and centrally is Sterling

But back to my original point...to lose a player and not replace him would weaken the squad - the same could be said of any player that we are talking about here.

He seemed to prefer it to having Sane and Sterling wide even though we didn’t have KDB available and David Silva tiring.

that's because it freed sterling to play on the left as well or more centrally....Silva wasn't tiring at all, he had a few games where he was probably a 7/10 and nt his normal 9/10 or more but that's a bit of a thin argument im afraid.

the fact is that losing Sane and not to replace him at all would weaken the squad (and you could say that about any of the players we are talking about.

Sane wasn't great at all last season (I was hugely critical of him and got jumped all over for it) but to lose a player his age, and already undoubted ability wouldn't be great..however he can be replaced...not to do so would weaken us.

There’s not a chance we won’t replace any leavers. If for no other reason than we need the numbers. Due to our current lack of club trained players, we’ve got one of the smaller squads around already so to then reduce it further will not happen. We will be playing around 60 games a season, we need every player we can get.

And that’s before factoring in weakening a league winning squad when your rivals are inevitably going to improve which is one thing you don’t do and any forward planning for a potential ban. We can claim we’re confident of escaping a ban publicly but it would be negligence in the extreme not to have plans in place should it happen

Don't think anyone thinks it wouldn’t weaken the squad , but the squad would be more than capable of coping and there would be panic to replace him, we’d take our time and identify a long term replacement. Most likely with KDB , Foden, Gundogan, Silva all available centrally, we’d have enough wide with Sterling, Bernardo and Mahrez,
