The NHS Appreciation Thread

I spent yesterday at Liverpool university open day with one of my daughters who wants to be a nurse.

9k a year fees. 9k a year loan for accommodation and living. Times 3 would leave her about 60k in debt to earn a starting salary of 22k after 3 years training and 30k after 5 years. I will help her clear that but many others would face that.

An absolute disgrace in my opinion. If someone is training to do such a vocation they should not face a debt mountain when they are just kicking off in life and a not that attractive salary as a reward. No disrespect to bus drivers but they don’t get paid much different to nurses.

It is wrong that I was saying to my daughter I will help you do something aside from your job to help you make money / get on the property ladder for such a skilled profession. Left me upset to be honest. Proud of her commitment and passion for it though.

Well done to all the nurses!
It is not often I ever agree with you but on this point I do. It is ridiculous that somebody entering the nursing profession faces any debt at all. I disagree with student fees per se, but for nurses and other medical professions it is counter productive. The only caveat I would place is that on graduation they must serve a minimum length of time in the NHS in lieu of there education.

Someone was whinging about families not taking relatives home ... this simply isn’t always the case.

I had to fight for weeks to get my aunt discharged as they were trying to put her in care. The staff were horrible at the time .

Took Mum to Crumpsall yesterday she's 78 and thought she was having a heart attack, the Sister seen her within 15 mins of getting to A&E and had her blood tested after 20 mins. Absolutely fantastic care from an over crowded, over worked under funded (that's another debate) staff, our cherished NHS at its finest well done Crumpsall.

Just returned to Boston after a flight from Manchester via New York...
This time last week I was packing to fly to Manchesrer on the Sunday with a funeral in mind.....
My 85 year old mum - who is very active and physically fit - had caught sepsis and pneumonia and had fluid on her lung and was in intensive care. With her permission they put her into a sleep to ease her pain and allow her body to recuperate.... This lasted 4/5 days when my brother contacted me to say the end was nigh and her organs were shutting down as a result of the extremely high oxygen intake she was receiving....
So I fly over and land Monday to find my mum awake-ish and asking me what was I doing there.....
By Wednesday she was off all tubes and eating solids.... But the hospital wanted to move her to another hospital purely as the other hospital would do physio work with her that this hospital didnt do. They just needed to wait for a bed.
My mum was too impatient in waiting for physio and set about exploring the ward via her zimmer frame. So much so that on Friday the hospital discharged her citing that she didnt need physio work!
The grim reaper had been hanging around last weekend but my mum told him to well and truely fuck off.

Through this all the staff at the hospital were magnificant...... A credit to the NHS.....
Any Tory twat voting to sell off the NHS should be hung..... It is so valuable and a fantastic thing the UK has....
Thanks again to the wonderful staff at the NHS.

What a brilliant outcome. Best regards to your mum!!
