So is there a generalised conclusion we are allowed to draw about Americans based on that?

Yes; just use highly complicated algorithms to arrive at a statistically weighted result. Accuracy is everything.

It’s all going swimmingly well lol...

‘EXCL: Post-Brexit US trade deal in doubt as documents leaked to Telegraph reveal chronic Whitehall staff shortages, lack of progress in key areas and signs that US administration may be losing interest’ @ Telegraph

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/busines...trade-talks-laid-bare-cache-leaked-documents/

Hence the Trump assault on our ambassador? The idea we are going to be able to somehow negotiate with Trump - who is only interested in " a win " from a position of strength is now dead.

So why should the losers in a close vote accept the result if it wasn't last time!

This time everyone has a much better understanding what a leave or remain vote entails.

Unless I’m mistaken, didn’t the leave campaign break electoral law?

Ditto, hospitals, schools , police , libraries

I think we may have cut a little too deep with austerity....

We didn't cut deep when it came to giving Rees Moggs mum in law £7.5 million to decorate her mansion tho , or £376 million to decorate queenies house, or £52 billion for a train line nobody wants, £207 billion for a missile system that we don't need, £12 million for an apartment for an ambassador to the US (that worked out well) on top of his usual residence..... £6 billion on aircraft carriers with no planes. £60 million to repair a bell...... this is on top of Graylings failings

But I know .... let's balance the books by taking £30 a week off Disabled people eh?

Yes, electoral law was broken by some parties involved. However this has not resulted in a null-and-void result, and neither has there been any call for that, so the result is now accepted. The thought that these illegalities caused a change in voter activity is difficult to prove. It is purely mentioned in an attempt to make a second referendum more legitimate than the first, but a referendum is either legitimate or not, it can't be somewhere in-between. So unless the second vote gets a whopping majority win, the idea that a second referendum result will result in everyone being fully acceptable of the result is total fantasy. It is likely to be influenced largely by voter apathy, with many people having the belief that voting to remain, changing their initial vote, will indeed be the end of the matter. Many (perhaps the majority), like myself, care little whether we're in the EU or not, but there is probably a larger groundswell of committed eurosceptics now than there was before the 2016 referendum.

Chris Patten once said that holding a referendum was a stupid idea, so what does holding TWO referendums say about us?

The politicians are too weak to admit they were all at fault before the first one and are too weak to handle the outcome we face today and they are trying to cop out by putting it back to the electorate. The first referendum should have been advisory only, and the result used to formulate the party policies, not make a huge policy shift. I've always been surprised Cameron hasn't been arrested for dereliction of duty, to be honest.

What did they not understand about what leave or remain meant in 2016?
This ridiculous argument only came about because of non acceptance of the result.

Nobody knew the specifics, me included. It was presumed we’d easily just enter a FTA with them and other nations around the world and that will be that.

For some reason, many still think that’s a possibility and that the reason we’re stalling is purely a lack of will/optimism.

Obviously the real reason is because in 2016, nobody mentioned the Good Friday Agreement and our relationship with Ireland, which has ultimately stopped us getting Brexit done, so far.

This issue can’t just be willingly wished away if we “just get on with it” or “believe in Britain”.

Leaving has failed that is the significant difference.

All the complications were dismissed and we were promised and easy and simple deal. This was plainly not true.
Leaving has just simply not been implemented, we've discussed to death the reasons why.
The point is, that this 'Didn't understand, or know then, but we do now,' is a fabrication by those who
lost the vote.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE CONSERVATIVE

s_6226.jpg

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his kettle with water to prepare his morning tea/coffee. The water is clean and good, because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take, because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat, because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labelled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents, because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean, because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

Joe drives to work in a safe regulated car because meddling liberals fought for more safety features and standards.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, pension, paternity leave, paid holidays and sick pay because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.

Joe hurts himself at work and an ambulance takes him to A&E. He receives free at the point of use treatment thanks to bloody liberal socialists who formed the NHS.

Joe gets home and relaxes by turning on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn’t mention that his beloved Conservatives have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.

Joe agrees: “We don’t need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I’m a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.”

Joe is blissful in his ignorance…

The End.

And it has not been implemented for very good reasons - none of which were really discussed pre 2016 vote. The reality is that brexit as described then is nothing like the cold hard ugly truth of today. It is far more complex and there is no good way of delivering - hence it has not and will not be delivered.

I mean this is totally obvious and I’m not sure why people don’t understand it.

Most MP’s have voted for at least one version of how we should leave and triggering Article 50 easily passed through Parliament.

If it was as straight forward as “just getting on with it”, we’d have already done it.

You're making the same mistakes here as others these days do with politics. Pigeonholing a stance and viewpoint as being one for negative approaches and one for positive.

Conservatives can be liberal also and fight for the same standards you hold important. Conservatives are not your enemy, selfish people are.
