Edinburgh festivals 2019

Good to hear folks up there are getting what they presumably paid for when they decided to spend August in Scotland rather than Spain. Whenever I've been there for the month it's felt like I've had to autumn's that year.
All is well with the world today. Its sunny. That should last for at least 15 minutes. ;-)

Mate, you will be pleased to note it has pissed down all weekend to biblical proportions. Luckily, as a resident, i don’t need to traipse the streets.

Get yourself indoors and listen to some wank unfunny free comedy as per festival tradition.

I'll be honest mate, the wife and I tend to avoid town during the festival unless there is something exceptional and specific we want to see. Too busy and too many well meaning loons trying to entertain you badly. We used to to the fringe and the fireworks but over the years it has just got a bit meh. Each to there own though, I know a lot of people that still love it.

Was there last weekend glorious sunshine all day Friday and Saturday tho pissed down Saturday night but me and the future ex Mrs Lee didn't care as we was we drunk by then, Friday evening went to see the last king of porn which was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen tho strangely couldn't stop watching (might have had something to do with the scantily clad actresses) then Milton Jones Saturday evening, he was very good lots of one liners, got talked into doing a silent disco Saturday night which was actually lots of fun

Simon Evans (paid).

Madame Chandelier's rough guide to the Opera (free but get there early to squeeze into a room that uncomfortably seats 20 but has 30 people in it) - a mad 40 minutes of opera mayhem and a Nessun Dorma singalong.

And for cineastes, the French Institute has "Right in the Eye" - a live trio playing accompaniment to the films of George Melies (he was the old watch repairer in the film Hugo). Fascinating stuff - the effects and the sets were remarkable for the turn of 19th/20th century.

Shakespeare for Breakfast always good (Romeo and Juliet this year - two coffee shops in deadly rivalry....) but Dickens for Dinner meh (and no coffee and croissants).

And Henning Wehn of course.

Henning just does not do it for me despite him being a Hearts fan

I have just spent 3 weeks in Scotland, Orkney and Shetland and only got wet twice. For the most part it was dry, sunny with a little wind. It didn't have pissed up tattoo'd twats who's idea of a nice time is 10 pints, some shots and a line of charlie but hey...I could go to Spain if I wanted that...

Evans was bang on. Eric Davidson was not.
