Away goals rule in European competitions

Away goals rule imho is not fine Why should a goal count twice? It was originally introduced to avoid replays in European competitions subsequently, penalty shootouts were introduced Take the Llorente handball v City last season, a goal that arguably shouldn’t have stood, ended up being counted double There is also an argument that it encourages a team to park the bus and try to score on the breakaway away from home

It’s not counted twice. It’s valued more than the home goal in case of a tie and rightly so. European away grounds are incredibly hard to score. Liverpool last season is a perfect example of the massive home ground advantage in Europe. Refereeing incompetency shouldn’t be a factor in deciding the rules.

After two legs away goals should be used to decide the tie. i.e 1-1 and 2-2 the side that scored 2 away should go through. If both games are 1-1 then if they play extra time, the aways goals should NOT count double (or whatever it is). If its 2-2 after full time and 3-3 after extra time it should go to penalties. The away team would have had an extra 30 minutes to get a massive advantage.
Or scrap all that and treat it like a normal cup game, away goal rule is ridiculous and needless

If it’s 3:3 and one team has scored an away goal it’s counted twice that’s pretty simple The point is referee incompetence, if a an away goal has been been wrongly allowed, is a factor.
If away grounds are so hard to score at, according to you, then make all goals count double not just ones to decide the tie.

Liverpool FC were “massively” poor away from home last season in the ECL

Yes, even the champions struggle at European away grounds, hence scoring away goals being valued more.

They shouldn't be valued more, all teams know they have to score more than the other side, football is a simple game made more complicated to sell the product

I don't know why they try so hard to avoid penalties. They're the best bit.

As long as we're not playing, of course.

European Champions 14 games 4 lost not even champions of their domestic league Awarded a dubious penalty in the final lowest procession for a winner of the final of the ECL Many other teams found it not so difficult to score away from home If you are so keen on this stupid away goal rule and value them so much then let’s have it in the PL
