Sky have made too much out of Stokes’s innings at Headingley. It was a phenomenal knock but there’s every chance it will go down in vain as we face a 2-1/3-1 loss. It seems to be on repeat with Stokes’s interview when the series hasn’t even finished yet.

Realistically, we have to bat at least 100 overs and pray a few sessions are lost to rain.

Yeah was thinking that, total overkill and would have really wound them up.

just watching the last hour or so of the 2nd day and smith just got his double hundred ?? same old root as captain not got a clue how to set the field to smith and not got a scooby doo of getting him out ?? but what it just seen is the spinner leach turning to left hands out of the ruff and lyons must be loving it seeing that

england will defo not win this test and will do very well to stop them winning but the weather is the key and it will save root and england and will have one more test in a do or die

rough ??? sorry,,, been at the eye hospital all day and had all the eye drops that make you see fuck all add that to my dyslexia and anything is possible hahahahha

i think it saved the ashes did it not ?? great knock by stokes to win the game and keep england in with a chance ??? big score by the Aussies in the first innings but needs backing up by the bowling team. weather wise it don't look good for them to bowl england out twice so get out of this with a draw, and play a do or die winner takes all weather permitting in the last test

its was always silly by the ECB to play the ashes so late in the summer in england even if the world cup was being played ?? we still could have played them early and not Pakistan or ireland, even if we had to spilt the ashes in 2 parts that would have been better. but money talks just like next year when the ODI and T20 are playing nearly 40 games ???

Root seems disinterested when things aren’t going his way and I’m afraid it influences most of the other 10 players.

At 1-1 in the series, it’s rather disconcerting to see such a lacklustre performance from England, especially after pulling off a miraculous run chase in the previous game.

After his performances at the WC and in the previous two tests, it’s harsh to be too critical of Archer but I was expecting to see a repeat of his spell from Lord’s at Smith. Instead he bowled at a significantly slower pace and barely bounced him at all. Perhaps he’s injured but I felt he was far too nice to Smith.

I don't understand the far too nice to Smith comment,if he actually tried bowling line and length instead of aiming for his head every other ball he might have the chance of a wicket.

It is clear none of the attack have much of a clue on how to get him, average of 147 so far in this series proves that,Archer had figures of 0/97 to boot for this match alone, fearful yea ok

I have more of a clue at captaincy than Root.

with archer bowling fast and if i was captain i would always have a bat pad short leg and 2 men out on the hook and let them have chin music all day, forget going for some runs because he will hold out at some point or lolly pop a catch defending a bouncer its simple cricket that even the best don't play well, also to smith over the wicket and bounce across smiths stops him moving and maybe get him LBW if its straight and pitches inside leg stump

when the people in control coaches and captain before the ashes started, they must have had plans in place for everybody they bowled to and look for weakness in past test matches to see how they got them out and put plans to the bowling teams ??? root is clueless and not a good captain and just watching him you can see clearly he lets others take control like broad, and just letting the batting team and smith score quick runs and 200 runs says clueless

Smith even said that he was happy if they're aiming at his head as it rules out two ways of being out.

I think it's done quite a good job as a reality check on the absurd tubthumping over Archer and Stokes.

Too many one day cricketers in the England team, Root a poor captain and the job has effected his batting plus the coach is on his way out so probably not that motivated.

Let us hope the Manchester weather bails them out, but forecast for Saturday and Sunday looks pretty good so I expect the Aussies to wrap up the Ashes before the last test.

Then as usual England will probably win the final test and claim drawing the series was an amazing achievement.

Looks grim, if even the ace of manc rain is letting England down, Expected rain to stay in till Lunch at least :-(
