The dipper love-in is just too much now.
They have some good players no doubt but some of our players must be shaking their heads at how quickly the praise in the press comes(which seems to decide the awards), when you're at a cartel club.
It can't be about winning things because most of our players have won more and broke records doing it. Our centurions season broke more records than any team had ever managed in one season. If a cartel club did that, their players would be universally worshipped by the press/media. The team would still be riding the wave of hype from that today, especially after proving it was no fluke with back to back wins and the first domestic treble in English football(mens). Yet I think the PFA Young Player Award was about as much individual recognition that was given. Being nominated isn't enough, that's just to cover their backs. Getting to a final and losing was more important than winning something much harder to win, in spectacular fashion that year it seemed.

Looking at that, it's clear most years, when a team wins the PL, the player of the year follows to their best player that season. With the odd exception for a player having a standout season, probably helped if the winners best player already has one.
A one off is expected but last season makes it 3 times that City have won the PL but the player of the season has gone to another teams' best player. It just happened to be a Liverpool player each time too, what a coincidence.
The true test will come if City do win the CL. Would anyone really be surprised if that was just an excuse they've all been hiding behind, so not to give City as a club or it's players any credit?
City are here to stay but some of them are still too stubborn to accept it. Maybe they hope City will somehow fade away, so they can pretend this successful period never happened. The best answer to that, is to keep winning of course. The more City do, the more obvious their game becomes and the more ridiculous they look.
