More violence in Westminster.

Pro-Brexit demonstrators throwing cans at police officers and calling everyone traitors.

A small part of me doesn’t blame them.

A number of those present are known fascists.

Have you seen them trampling on the wreaths at the cenotaph, that is patriotism for you.

Surely he is not stupid enough to break the law, saying he would rather die in a ditch is looking very stupid indeed now
I predict Boris will not ask for an extension. He’s setting himself up as the people’s champion and Brexit as a battle between the people and Parliament.

Probably because they felt a better deal could be negotiated. You could also ask why people who campaigned for Remain didn’t accept it. Looking at the votes, all but 3 Labour MPs voted against it, and so did every Lib Dem
and SNP MP. Looking at the number of Labour MPs who voted for it compared to Tory MPs, it reads like political tribalist bollocks rather than everyone getting their heads together on an issue that transcends party politics.

May’s deal was scuppered by MPs across the board, not just Brexit-voting ones.
That would be because the government refused to consult the other parties and only tried to appease the far right of their own party along with the DUP, and failed in that as well. If they had involved Labour and the Lib Dems during the negotiation we would have been out by now on an EFTA/EEA deal. May’s red lines fucked up the whole process because it was never going to be enough for the ERG, so she should have got cross party consensus instead.

Yep,i was just reading his comments yesterday,he says he will not ask for a delay so he looks like he is going to get himself into real trouble,i bet he thought if trump could get away with being a lying scumbag then so could he

I never said they were. What I’m trying to say is that this one isn’t just on Brexit supporting MPs who voted against the deal - indeed, if I’m not mistaken there are more Remainers in the HoC than Leavers so if all the former had voted against it and all the latter for it, it would’ve been rejected anyway. In any case, the overwhelming rejection of that deal inadvertently saw us careering towards a greater possibility of no deal, until the motion to stop it was tabled.

The whole things a mess. For the record, I think we might see a few tweaks to the original WA and that might just get through. Eventually. Because more and more people - regardless of which way they voted - are getting sick of the current impasse. I’m sticking by my prediction that we’ll still be in the EU this time next year though.

I guess remainers who voted against it were equally deluded in retrospect about the prospect of a second referendum or scrapping Brexit altogether as those brexiteers who thought we would get a better deal. We'd probably all agree it's a shit show even if we want different outcomes

Good points but as I understood it, May’s deal wasn’t much different to the deal Labour were proposing so were all those Labour MPs voting against it doing so just because they’d not been consulted? Seems a bit petty to me. She did, belatedly, hold meetings with Corbyn. The trouble is that you’ll never please everyone and I think stubbornness all round has led us to this point and it’s possible an EFTA/EEA deal might not have garnered enough support either.

What I’m saying is that I don’t think he’s lying about this. A PM sent to prison for trying to enact the will of the people would lead to serious civil unrest imo. Surely there should be a GE before October 31st so the people can decide if they want to Leave on that date or not?

Yeah, difficult to argue with any of that. To be honest, I’m not surprised that we are where we are and said 3 years ago that it wouldn’t surprise me if it took us 5 years or more to leave.

If Johnson going to prison is a price worth paying for Brexit, can we leave twice and get Rees Mogg in the same cell

A general election shouldn't decide this, that's for selecting your government for the next 5yrs based on a huge range of policies, the leavers are so desperate to leave any old how that they have lost sight of that, look they have had over 3yrs to get brexit done,May left it to the last minute because she wanted to ram her deal through when time was nearly up,boris has actually interferred with democracy in a bid to ram through no deal against the will of the house,if he goes to prison he deserves it and it will be on his shoulders any unrest that follows

Not sure how you can say that her deal wasn’t much different to Labour proposals when they were not consulted. It’s true that there was a lot of push back against EEA/EFTA because many Brexiters including quite a few on here said it was not really leaving so why bother. It would have had the advantage of only pissing off three quarters of the population a bit, with the other quarter being totally pissed off. That would be better than totally pissing off half the population and fucking the economy.
