Wolves (H) Post-Match Thread

I was following the action on bet365 website and put a quid on Wolves at 55 minutes they were 19-1 for the win, cashed out a tenner when they scored and put a quid on Newcastle and then did the same, had a feeling it was going to be one of those days,Wolves will keep surprising a lot of teams.
I think last season Wolves were surprising a lot of teams, but not this season. They have an expensively assembled team with one or two players destined to end up at the biggest clubs in Europe. But despite that, they're 11th - should be doing much better when you look at the quality in that team.

Spot on, I really don’t understand what Pep is waiting for. It can’t get any worse than Otamendi.

Depending on Stones and whether he will be fit or not, I do believe Garcia could get the nod ahead of Otamendi against Palace.
I fkng hope so.

Perhaps after the performance of Otamendi yesterday (and Norwich), Pep might decide that it is worth giving Garcia a chance. To be fair he couldn't be much worse.

A normal coach would have signed a CB, but Pep is no normal coach. He innovates and will do it his way. However, that said, FFP is the reason given for no CB signing. And don't forget that there aren't too many CBs out there who play the Pep way. Much as it annoys me to say so, Maguire would have suited us far more than he suits Manure.

we might get him on the cheap when they get relegated

Hopefully. Otamendi has to be held accountable for his very poor performances this season instead of getting away with it by starting constantly.

Garcia could not do any worse than Ota vs Wolves
Vinnie brought out the best in Ota. With Vinnie directing him and reining in Ota's natural instinct to over commit, he looked excellent.

It means jack shit as a lot of defenders are more talented than Otamendi. Maguire is no Laporte. I’m still happy we didn’t get him.
De Ligt was my number one choice...

Pep's too but a massive salary was apparently too much for us to cough up.

If we defend like that v the dipper vermin, we will be humiliated.

I can see more teams employing this style if defending against us because we seem to have trouble getting through. Coupled with our comical defending we won’t get within 6 points of the red Italian slayers.

Obviously, Bernardo is suffering at the hands of our toxic media and it's affecting him - he's human. Add the injuries and we're a temporarily weakened animal. David is more of a club captain, but what's clear to me is that Kevin's our de facto captain - it's clearly in his nature. Siege mentality after the international break.

We play risk and reward footy - we dangle the ball in front of opponents saying 'come and try and get it off us' to draw them out of position. In essence we want teams to attack us so we can destroy them in the space they leave, but we have so much of the ball they only have limited chances to have a go and when they do (or did), Vinnie was always there to snuff out the danger. Now Vinnie's gone and Laporte's out for a while, opponents are smelling blood. Our defensive problems aren't insurmountable. We've gift wrapped a few chances to opposing teams - we can eliminate that.

I had the same injury as Laporte in 96. Within a couple of weeks the NHS physio at North Manchester General was putting my leg through the full routine of painful exercises. It feels like your knee's being ripped apart but meniscus injuries, although painful, heal surprisingly quickly. It's all about building up the confidence to play your usual game and trusting your knee to be as strong as before. I reckon Laporte will be back quicker than originally thought.

We’d have had Laporte and KDB. Would have been fine.
Totally agree. Wolves thought they'd beaten Watford and were running round wearing wrestling masks and came unstuck. Would have been tougher than Watford, but we'd have had too much for Wolves.

Battle fatigue is an actual condition. The team has been in battles for too long, which impedes the production of adrenaline which is a crucial element of high performance. The only cure is rest and recuperation; the production of adrenaline is involuntary, triggered by danger/stress, and is well-researched by various military bodies. The performance on Sunday was similar to the one when the coach was trashed, flat and slow, a result of post-trauma depression, another well understood syndrome....
In forum-speak....."they were all shit, lazy and couldn't be arsed" :)

another one of those where we didn't perform. Cant afford anymore but i suspect it could well happen again. Losing Laporte is a big problem, Vinny leaving and not replaced, stones out and the injury to De Bryne. Its meant players playing out of position and basically filling in. However, Otamendi at times plays like a Sunday morning player, they know at some point he is going to go to ground but unless pep puts trust in the youngsters who may or may not be ready what does pep do!
Liverpool have also been flat this season, but have had the benefit of a feeble shot going through a GK's legs and players diving for pens like fairies (and getting the pen). But for some inept finishing by their opponents, they'd also be on our points total. But they've had some luck, including with injuries, and we haven't. Unless Liverpool improve, they'll lose a few playing at their current level.

Drop the proven trophy winning internationals that Pep works with day in day out and play the kids.
Or just let the best manager we've ever had decide.
Not just the best coach we've ever had - arguably the best coach who ever took charge of a team anywhere.

Didn't I read somewhere that Pep's wife and one of his kids have returned to Barcelona. Perhaps it's having an effect on his Majesty? How else can you explain Silva & Gundog starting together? He appears to be losing his marbles.
She's in Spain to attend to business issues - not a case of having enough of our crap Manc weather. It's Klopp's wife that hates it in the North West.

What we lacked was a midfielder who could demand the ball and dictate the game.

This season it was KDB. Injured
last season it was Bernardo. perhaps Pep did not think he was right after the week he's had.

I was actually positive before the game because although I knew about the injuries, I thought that City under media siege would kill the opponent, but Pep opted to withdraw Bernardo. Perhaps he has been hurt more than we realised?

It is even more surorising then that if Pep decides that Bernardo is not going to start he leaves out Foden.

What we did was effectively leave Mahrez, Sterling and Aguero completely isolated.

I wonder if Pep is going to fundamentally alter his view of our midfield. He talks a lot about how good Foden is but in truth the player will and should be completely exasperated at the moment. He came on and scored against Dinamo. What more does he have to do?
Bernardo is a young highly articulate, intelligent and thoroughly decent young guy who will be feeling the toxicity of our media more than most would. Inescapable fact that all this will make him feel shit.
