Go for it but forget cheap.
You are going to arguably the the most famous City on the planet and you will pay for that.
Save another year and don’t skimp on it.

You can get cheap hotel rooms near Times Square then because it’ll be fucking freezing.
I went at the end of Feb last year and didn’t enjoy it cos it was so cold with vicious winds and snow.

I've been in january and loved it. Didnt cue up for any of the attractions and nyc had their second biggest snow storm whilst i was out there. Walking around central park in the snow is great fun. Its the best city on the planet imho

So many hotels - pick your area and then budget and then go off the reviews. Maybe stay away from Time Square.

Not a bad shout - or Jersey if you can get a room with a skyline view. Check on how you would get about though.
