TV Series

It's well made and kind of enjoyable but blimey ...

... a proliferation of coincidences or what. And the polish lad walked from Warsaw to Dunkirk?

I'm not that keen on ticking all the contemporary equality & morality boxes either, something the BBC have a habit of doing with historical dramas.
That’s exactly what I thought & binned it , all for equality etc but ruined the story line for me .

His Dark Materials started tonight - BBC1, a really good opening episode, I was looking forward to it having read the books and it hasn't disappointed!

The background story has been skilfully done and quite quickly. We're immediately thrown into the action and it's been cast really well.

Just watch it, you'll know after twenty minutes whether you'll like it or not.

Haven’t read the books, maybe that would have helped. Anyway not for me this programme which has had more hype than Liverpool

Am currently on Season 3 of Treme.

Thought the honky-tonk R&B, jazz and blues content would be off-putting as I'm not much of a fan of these musical genres. But although there's an awful lot of all that, the story arcs for each of the characters are wonderfully compelling. Overall, it's a very worthy successor to The Wire and I would certainly recommend it. New Orleans culture is also fascinating and rather unique. You'll see what are known as 'Second Line' musical processions, jazz funerals, shamanic Indian rituals, and the local cuisine gets foregrounded too. The Mardi Gras sequences are pretty extraordinary too.

Another excellent one is Romanzo Criminale. Fans of Gomorrah should certainly give this a go. They won't be disappointed.

The Beeb were always going to hype this up as it's there big production number with massive investment, and they've had some of the actors spread around programmes doing PR, but know more than feature films do.

If you can forget about the hype and give it a watch you may just enjoy it. Plus Ruth Wilson is in it, and is going to be deliciously evil.

Utopia.

Swamp Thing but got bored

There was a Russian show called 'Better Than Us' which I finished recently. Really good.

Is it though?? Obviously subjective and I still find myself watching, however, the acting is more wooden than long John silvers leg... so poor

Yeah get you it aint Gomorrah more like a soap where you get to know the characters over those seasons now coming to a conclusion easy watching as such.
