Football is not a meritocracy where the best end up at the top no matter what.

Getting a chance at the right time or becoming disenchanted because you dont, or getting sent on a bad loan can permanently change someone's career trajectory.

Look at Chelsea right now. Opportunity. If Chelsea didn't have a transfer ban we'd most likely be seeing Mason Mount, Reece James and Abraham on another loan to another Championship side, and people would go 'they're clearly not ready'. As it is, they're not there. They're at Chelsea, and they're showing exactly how good they can be with a little luck, plenty of talent and the right chance at the right time. It's a funny old game. One minute you can be a good Championship player because someone didn't take a chance on you, the next you can be starring for England in a team in the top 4...

Bersant Celina is no less technically talented than Mason Mount for example. If anything he's probably more naturally gifted. But he's kinda stuck at Swansea. Weirdly, if he was in the Eredivise last season he'd probably have been afforded more chances to express himself, he probably would have and he'd probably be wanted by a Premier League club right now. Football hey?

Obviously i'm not saying we should stop signing great players and just randomly throw kids in... i'm just pointing out what @domalino argued correctly. The cream doesn't always rise to the top. We could absolutely waste a tonne of potential by not giving them the right exposure to elite level of football when they need it.

It's not a socialism where everyone supposedly gets a chance. if they are good they will play, if not they'll play somewhere else. Simple a that.

And what will Chelsea win with this young side? Not much I'd reckon, if anything. They are doing well in situation they are, but doing well is definitely not something Chelsea as a club of current status aspire - they want to do great and win stuff. So, when ban is gone, you can bet everything many of them will have their places in the team in danger. They are not SOutampton and neither are City. Plus they are better at noticing and developing young players than City are anyway. or pretty much any big club, their youth setup is second to none.

Except that's complete nonsense and anyone who thinks about it for 5 minutes should know that.

No Mr. Right, it's a perfect truth. Youngsters will never ever get a lot of chances in clubs that want to win everything. Only the very, very best ones.

If it was to "play youngsters" mob here, City would be mid table now or worse than that as about 30 players who play football in "nothing" clubs now should have been in the team. Luckily, some wiser people run the club.

That again is bollocks (and by the way completely different to your first point, almost as if you're just making it up as you go along) used by people to try and justify bad management.

There are dozens of examples of lots of kids getting chances in teams that won multiple trophies.

It is funny that youd make something up that's so obviously not true and then call it a "perfect truth" though.

Lol, you're funny. Have fuck all to prove with and than go with nonsense and bollocks stuff as argumentss. Truth is Trippier is the only young City player that played close to the biggest level of European football. All other finished in small or moderate clubs. OK, Sancho might be the other one but he went on his own.

City have fantastic record of selling players who would never make it at the club and at the very right time, despite some people here saying they would be world stars before and in the moment of selling. Keep moaning and living in the world where you know something.

Agreed - a mate of mine has grown up knowing the Keane twins, when they were younger Will was always regarded higher than Michael.

Michael moved away from OT a year earlier than Will, Michael is hardly the best centre back in the world but went to Everton for £25m and has 10 England caps. Will was lined up to make a few starts in Feb 2016 due to injuries to senior players but then he got an injury himself, the next in the pecking order got the nod instead - fast forward 3 and a half years and Rashford has over 200 appearances for club and country and Will's now in and out of a team in the third tier. A chance at the right time can make a player.

If Chelsea finish 4th this season, it will be success for them. If City finish 4th, it will be a serious failure league wise. Both clubs have different objectives which explains why Chelsea have time for youngsters and City don't.

You pay a price when you compete for all big trophies and against teams who can win 95+ points like Liverpool or have a wage bill of 500m like Messi's Barca. One must be naive to think City can compete against those teams with youngsters in the first XI. Liverpool don't have such youngsters and Barca won't go far in the CL if they start kids against good teams.
