Pep's rebuilding job. Pep's City Mk II

And that’s where FFP has f***ed us.

Sheikh Mansour would have ploughed his money into doing that.

Now like every other club, we’re ‘forced’ to work under FFP rules and a level playing field, brought in by the cartel cubs (and UEFA) who were petrified of City’s spending power.
We’ve still spent plenty of money in the Pep era, not all of it spent well.

Sane, Sterling and Jesus are the fastest forward line in the Premier League

Laporte and Stones are quick enough

Foden comes in for Silva when ready. In terms of pace, job done.
Sane is gone, Stones is shit, and not one of the players listed is a midfielder bar Phil and he’s certainly not “quick”

Job only half done. Sane won't be here and you are missing a DM.
Get Son in for Sane?

its a huge job considering we need

Two centre backs (one to replace Kompanya and one to replace stones - his head is gone!)

Two left backs - (how ong has that been said for!????!!!) BOth are absolute dogshite

A replacement for ferna (even with Rodri) - once he leaves thats a huge hole int he squad to fill

A replacement for David Silva - Foden clearly isnt ready if we are to trust our manager (which i do)

A replacememtn for GJ - id personally sell him to a european team - he would do well in the spannish or Italian leagues.

A replacement for Kun - an almost impossible task!

Thats a shit load of work...maybe we can delay the replacement for Ferna and Kun one more season after this but the rest are urgent especially the defensive ones - and to counter my own statement, Id say getting the replacement for ferna in now while he is still here is just as important.

Add to all that the very very strong almost certainty of losing Leroy Sane - how do you replace him..the option being floated about (if true) are truly uninspiring!)

we will get decent money for Jesus, Sane ( i dont want him to leave but its clear he wants out) and maybe some money bak on Mendy but nowhere near what we paid for him....we may reoup the money on Angelino.

We would get little to nothing for Otto as well so there are big financial implications as well to this.
That's far too pessimistic. Stones and Laporte were oustanding for much of last season. Why do you say Stones head has gone? His problem is that he is forever injured. He just can't get a run in the side. Laporte is a world class player. Garcia and Harwood Bellis are fine prospects. I don't see a problem there.

Losing Mendy who was a world class left back was hard but we survived it first through the form of Delph and then Zinchenko. Zinchenko is under-rated because he didn't cost £50m.

Why doesn't Rodri fill Fern's shoes. He's slow but so was Xabi Alonso.

Jesus is an oustanding young player. We'd be foolish to let such a talented young player go. He needs supply. At the moment we're struggling to do that because KDB is not quite at the level he was whilst David Silva's legs have gone.

We have the same problem that Pellegrini had when Yaya reached the end of his days. The team has become unbalanced but I don't think it will take much to put right.

Laporte is outstanding I agree but Stones is mentally weak...he isnt commanding in any sense and you need that as a cetnre half no matter what. I say that abut Stone as he is all over the shop...missing challenges, poor passing which is one of his strengths ususaly, letting people turn, weak challenges...he just looks a shoadow of the player we bought and who we saw play the first 6 months. It aint a question of his ability but his mindset.

I agree on Zinchenko - he was outstadning at left bak but his weakness like the rest wil be exposed if we cannt retain posession - the other question is he happy to spend his club career playing out of position? We lose width when he plays as Mendy and Angelino are suposed to suply this (they actualy dont and there attackign play is shockingly poor)

I think Rodri si a great player but he is struggling to do it alone - Ferna could as he was so much more mobile...... and the game has moved on and teams will play fast paced counter attacking football and avoid our midfield like utd did and liverpool do.

And w disgaree on Jesus. he is a very good player but not outstanding - Aguero has and has always been outstanding . GJ isnt and his mentality is shot..he even said it himself in an interview last year that he feels low when he doesnt talk to his mother (normal) but it greatly affects his game and Pep hinted at that as well last week in a press conference - Im sorry but you have to be mentally tougher than that....he can of course hange this but will he

I thikn the rebuding job is bigger than some anticipate.

Id also bin Mahrez - another luxury player who flits in and out of game and form -you cannt have that it title chasing teams

Short, to the point and arguable to an extent - but only if you don't look in the trophy cabinet and the heart of the squad going forward.
Sorry but how does the past help the current side. Being league champions doesn't help City one bit when we face Liverpool and Man Utd. We accuse their fans of living in the past whereas their sides destroyed us in the first 1/4 of the game.

The team needs rebuilding. We've done it once under Pep. It needs to happen again. I think it's underway but it takes time and is a longer process than fans are prepared to accept. We want Foden to play now. Well he's 19. How good was Silva at 19?

Son is a brilliant player. Sane may still be here. Bayern are even worse off than we are. They are 7th in their league. They don't need wide players. They need central defenders and midfielders.

Why can't Rodri be a DM?

Son is the one from the premierhip Id have as well . very clever player, who works his arse off as well - great in one on one situations which Pep requires - can he do the defensive side of the game Ppe requires (and why Pep has such an issue with Leroy who has to be constantly shouted at fromt he sidelines to do it!) -

I think back to what he was like at Everton in his breakthrough season and the player we purchased, he was 10 times the player back then than he is now. He’s regressed so badly it’s incredible - he’s been here 3 and a 1/2 years now.

Hadn’t thought about it like that... but you are 100 per cent correct.

1 goalkeeper - let Bravo go, preferably replace with homegrown to free up spot
2 central defenders - sell both Stones and Nico
1 left back - sell Mendy and Angelino
2 midfielders - Dave leaves us and sell Gundogan
1 left winger - assuming Leroy is gone, I’d also contemplate selling Mahrez as well as I don’t think he will ever be what we need
1 striker - needs to be young, maybe Haaland, as we’ve got another season of Sergio before he officially needs replacing

Out of current squad the only ones worthy imo of being retained are:

Eddie, Kyle, Cancelo, Laporte, Zinchenko, Rodri, Dinho, Kev, Bernie, Phil, Raz, Sergio, Jesus - plus any of the other kids close to first team like Garcia etc.

It’s a BIG rebuild.

fully agree
