Political compass thread

In fairness the questions are ambiguous so it leads people more to the green than the blue in the way they are worded. If anyone came out far right and authoritarian I would be calling MI5.
Some of the q's are a bit "one should never, not use no triple negatives".

don’t get it I voted lib Dems?

Nice to see I'm the closest to the centre.

Always knew I was the most bslnced poster on here.

SImple terms? The choice resides with the individual, not the Government.

You feel the Government's main role is to provide and maintain social services, support a free market and that's it. Minimal state intrusion in social and personal economic affairs. No nanny state bullshit. As Anarchists believe in NO government, Libertarians believe in some government, with a small g.

A LEFT Libertarian believes in paying taxes towards social services, healthcare, national security, education and the like, but that is ALL you are willing to contribute towards. Projects like HS2 aren't part of taxes you're likely to be prepared to pay for, unless you yourself agree with the idea.

A RIGHT Libertarian believes "my money is my money and I should be able to decide what social services I support and how much I wish to financially contribute". All taxation is theft, as it is taken from us without our consent and we have little say in how it is spent or what it is spent on, especially if a Government we don't support is elected.

I'm a centrist Libertarian, so i'm kind of in the middle. It's not exactly a mindset of "for the good of the nation", it's mostly putting individuals first, about respecting the will and sovereignty of the individual over giving the state power, but that the individual is free to give that state as much support financially and politically that they wish. The hope being that people who are free to contribute to causes they care about will do so willingly, but the aspect is that nobody is forced to do so by the Government through taxation. It's our own choice, not one forced upon us.

Examples; I hate marajuana, the smell is revolting and I cannot be near anyone who smokes it. Should it be legalised? Absolutely. Who am I or the Government to tell free thinking, consenting adults what they do or do not put into their own bodies. It's our choice. They gave give health warnings and risks, and we are free to take heed or ignore them.
Interesting stuff @Mëtal Bikër

I cannot claim to know anything like the detail that you do - but intuitively I felt my score reflects how I see myself - and reading your explanation seems to further confirm that

Genuinely surprised we all seem to be in the middle to top right of the green square. There are a few who I thought would at least come out a bit into the right in a non- extreme way.
I don't think the test is 100% accurate, but so many falling in the top right of the green square maybe illustrates a point.

I personally don't believe that in isolation most people have overly strong beliefs, instead they have mild opinions.
I think most people want to be treated with respect, and they want other people to be treated with decency too.
I think most people want to be left alone by the government, but recognise that they would benefit from some structure.
I think most people support economic freedoms, but are rather eager to have a government that protects them from being shafted by big businesses.

In fact for someone like me who's generally rather apolitical these results are only strengthening my disinterest. Politics can be so complex in all areas of the spectrum. Yet in the media and social media has become a constant discussion of extremes when the reality is we're all somewhere in the middle. So my options are to either rapidly support a party based on a single major point/identity politics/something else like that despite me not being on board with the rest of the policies, or just steer clear.

I actually think that's why so often in elections the more charismatic leader wins. Because when the major choices don't represent the core electorate, people just choose whichever leader they think is less likely to do a shitty job running a country and being in charge of people. Because what else?

Here's my chart anyway for reference. I've done this a few times over the years and I've always been here, so I think the test is consistent:

Naturally i have to address that this is from the American Libertarian Party but essentially, it's what most libertarians agree with, with a bit of leeway depending on how left or right wing you see yourself.

Not entirely correct. I've spoke with left wing libertarians who are pro guns. (I am not one of them)

They're "Pro-choice" (for want of a better term) as is the whole concept of libertarianism. Some libertarians on the left hate guns and don't own them, but respect the right of people to own them. Some others do 'ave 'em. ;)

Remember that in the graph, it's the bullet points in the middle. It's the individual right to keep and bear arms they'd agree with.

I am taking that to prove, or at least strongly suggest, that I am as tolerant and balanced as I have always thought I was
