Wolves - post match

But they won’t !!! Wolves will just defend and fall over like limp flowers, but this time they’ll get nothing.

Liverpool will not contrive to hand Wolves the game through their own rank ineptitude. They won't have the incompetence of Mendy, Ederson and Sterling and their manager will do his job better than ours did last night.

Liverpools individual moments of brilliance, along with divine (FA) intervention makes the difference between the two of us. In contrast we make too many individual errors this season along with an invisible opponent. How did it take so long to give that penalty for us? They even said they were checking for any reason not to give it. Says all you have to know in comparison to Liverpool’s VAR decisions.

While it's been a great couple of seasons football and trophy wise. I've got to the stage now where I just want us to put in a decent defensive performance.

I disagree. Laporte is a magic bullet. Get him back to his best we are as good as anyone.

It would not surprise me if we won the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. Liverpool have been outstanding but I only see one weakness in our side, and that was once again apparent tonight. People are making the problems to be widespread but they simply are not. The intensity has gone from our game because the league has gone but the Cups have not. They are very much in play when we have our central defenders back.

Absolutely agree. We have a couple of major fault lines which have impacted the way we always want to play.

Laporte opens up the opposite side of the pitch and Sane stretches teams in the final ten yards of the pitch.

Zinchenko has also been a massive miss.

We have tried to get away with it, perhaps out of an understandable loyalty towards some club legends, certainly when you factor in the achievements of the last two seasons.

That is compounded by some bad buys that all teams make.

It was not a lack of effort last night, it was that which ultimately left some out on their feet, especially as we aren't asked to defend for our lives too often.

The drop off in quality is apparent when players of a certain standard are asked to come in and do job.

Pep just needs to ask himself if he is up to the challenge of rebuilding, as he will be selling both him and City short if there is the slightest mental fatigue at the prospect.

There is a real chance we can get the better of United over two legs, most probably setting up a final at Wembley against Leicester.

Winning that game would mean we have already won the first two domestic trophies of this season (again)

Madrid can expose all our deficiencies, but squeezing past them would surely give us a major crack at the Champions League, with perhaps only a bad draw against Liverpool or PSG tripping us up.

After having time to calm down, I've came to the conclusion that Mendy's fucking dogshit

Yep agreed it totally ruined my evening.
Sterling at fault for the 1st and Mendy the 2nd.
As with most of the goals we concede it's our errors that give them the goals.

Not here to brag, and in fact I am sorry (genuinely) that we have inadvertently handed Liverpool the title.

A game full of drama, I can't explain why but I just felt we were going to win. Obviously beating ten men for 80 minutes is key here, probably was a sending off but the keeper was silly in making that challenge though it all happened so quickly. The penalty was a penalty though I didn't think so at the time, just goes to show how VAR got it right, even though it was accidental. The twice taken penalty was to the letter of the law correct too, but by the barest of margins, and again it boils down to interpretation. The City player encroached first of all and it was so marginal.

City support was very good last night, all things considering (the result and the way it went), made a lot of noise I thought. Fair play for joining I with the "Fuck VAR" song, proper fans City are.
I know it was all very dramatic and hostile, but that again was mainly due to VAR. Inadvertantly, it just doesn't suit being used in football.

As a fan I am still confused as to when VAR can intervene and when it can't, never mind the actual decisions.

This is the best Wolves team I've ever seen, and I know its all down to luck with owners and money. Just enjoying it whilst I can. It probably won't last too long.

Hope City get back on track next season.

What struck me yesterday after Edersons exit was our lack of control and ball retention other than very sporadic spells. Our shape was also all over the place. Wtf was that about. Still trying to work out was it a back 5 with Garcia, Fern and Ota as CB or was Fern supposed to move forward alongside Rodri. I saw Stirling as a lone outlet for much of the second half which meant we had at least 8 players who should have been attempting to control a two goal league. Words fail me we were just so poor. Are we so lacking in a plan B that we cant just close down a game by flooding the midfield and retaining the ball. It sure looked like it. Comedy defending for their goals but so so poor in general.

I think we will make top 4 but there will be more nights like tonight. Really not sure what is going on in this camp.
City’s ball retention was appalling.

Rather than spending shed loads on players to fill the current holes I'd like to see some pragmatism. Or at least a change in plan.

Walker at CB? Cancelo RB?

Dinho and Rodri In midfield?

It might not work but it's not working at the moment.

I think we need to evolve rather than keep on with the same style. Teams are having a go at us now. They have evolved.

Also the idea we just need Laporte back and everything will be OK is fanciful. Even with him Son tore us apart in the CL.

That's what happens when player's get tired. Wolves are a tough team to beat 11 vs 11. Even the world champion dipper team would struggle playing Wolves for 78 minutes.
Wolves have won 7 games. 2 against us. The others against the bottom 5.

We should have dealt with them last night. 10 men or not. Two goals up and we fucked it up. End of.

Let's be honest playing wolves away with eleven men is hard enough never mind ten and that's from 12 minutes so my sole blame comes down to Eddie love the Guy but that was rash and stupid coming out like that and it's not the first time he's done it. If he stays in goal different outcome less panic in defence.

Back on track next season ? Still in 3 cup competitions, unbelievable.

He made one mistake. Unfortunately it led to a goal, for the most part since he came back from his injury he has been fine.

It's not Mendy's fault no one closes down Traore for their first or we fucking lose our heads for their third.

Played deserved the win you have a top manager and a very good team can you make the the next step into the top four? Will your manager leave if another top club come in for him? Think the effort your team put in and the ridicules 44 hours both our clubs have been stitched up will effect yours and our team on sunday we might jus have enough to win but afraid liverpool will comfortably beat you and if its looking iffy the referee will step in.

I thought Mendy actually dealt with Traoré pretty well last night until he had his absolute brain fart.

And that for me sums up our entire season. Every mistake we make(see Sterling for their first goal) we are getting severely punished.

We were 10 minutes away from coming away with 3 points after being down to ten men for 80 minutes.

Most of those players worked their absolute bollocks off trying to shut down Wolves and it's very difficult to play your normal game when your up against it. But tiredness does strange things to you and after Mendy's error you could see the team looked crushed, Wolves sensed that and went in for the kill which worked for then.

I won't blame the team as a whole but individual errors are costing us dear at the moment
