The Spectator's Choice.

The man who unlawfully shut down Parliament is Parliamentarian of the year.

In other awards Minister to Watch is Michael Gove (in case he stabs you in the back). If we don't extend transition maybe he'll suddenly remember again:

"We didn’t vote to leave without a deal. That wasn’t the message of the campaign I helped lead. During that campaign, we said we should do a deal with the EU and be part of the network of free trade deals that covers all Europe, from Iceland to Turkey."
Was this in 2016? I think things have sort of moved on tbh.

Wouldn't get too excited about next week.
Then the stage will be set for Brexit on 31 January, when the post-Brexit transition period will begin.

For 11 months, the UK will still follow all the EU's rules and regulations, it will remain in the single market and the customs union, and the free movement of people will continue.

Then after 11 months, who knows, but quite possibly an extension to transition or a new deal that looks pretty much like the above in a clever disguise.

I love all these predictions, the ones we've had so far have proved about as relevant as the Labour party manifesto.

The UK will probably remain largely aligned to the EU until most of us are dead and indeed beyond. This will be driven by commercial interests, and the fact that there is no need or desire to unpick the vast majority of regulatory alignment from the last 40 years. We are only leaving the EU, not Europe. The sun will still rise and set each day and the channel tunnel will stay open. I've long predicted that fuck all will probably change post brexit and I still think that's the case. Sorry if this upsets anyone who was hoping for a post apocalyptic UK, mass deportations or anything particularly good to happen.

I think you’re probably right. The Brexit cheerleaders are all going to be a bit upset when we end up with BRINO and realise that nothing has changed and we’ve lost our say in how things are run.

You are simply missing the basics though - IMO

There is merit in all that you say - but...….

The only answer that you and others seem to offer is that we should not be leaving the EU.

That is why I keep posting that you need to find a way of accepting that is happening - that is the undeniable basics.

Once that is understood and executed then the rest follows - and we are indeed Leaving so banging on about why we shouldn't is not going to get you anywhere, or, I suggest, help your peace of mind in any way.

Yes - I expect the deal with the US to be tough - although I expect Trump's ego to be a factor that can be exploited.

Bottom line is though that:

Understanding the basics = accepting that we are Leaving next week and all these matters have to then be professionally managed

We shouldn't be leaving the single market and customs union ..... our industries are too closely intertwined for that.

Thought your last sentence was grammatical wizardry ..... giving the impression that the conservatives could 'professionally' manage something. Chapeau sir.

Can completely see this happening. Which will end up begging the question what was the point?

The 10pm till 2am show on here is a real hoot.

Some must have real nightmares every night after the stuff they have written.

For anyone who is interested in fish see the first 5 mins...........then think what happens when we leave....when we have queues at the ferry crossings with fresh fish on board.. when we have tariffs..when we have 4 inshore fisheries protection vessels to protect ALL our coastline from illegal immigrants and encroaching foreign fishing vessels...

And the fishing vessels are being monitored by a french company - YCMIU
