On 31 Jan, any celebrations would be enhanced with placards showing pictures of a smiling Gina, and slogans proclaiming
our thanks to her, without you love, it may never have happened.
Certainly a 'genuine' Brexit would not have happened - if it does she (and Corbyn) will go down as a major factor.

Indeed, we should all give thanks to Gina Miller, Hugh Grant, John Bercow, Anna Soubry, the Labour party, (every Libdem
MP should be knighted), and a special thumbs up to Bob Geldof, and Jean Claude Juncker.

Agreed - special mention also for Donald Tusk and that self-serving tosser Dominic Grieve

So the new 50p coin (and all our 50ps) will be worth about 8 Euro cents less than before we voted to leave the EU. Thanks for reminding us that Project Fear wasn't all scaremongering.

Just to save tiresome poster the bother, yes I know we are leaving on Friday.
There is every chance that the certainty of brexit actually happening might cause a bit of a surge in the pound on Friday, and I'm sure some will claim this as evidence the brexit is a success. Idiots on both sides clutching straws.

Dont leave Varadkar out.
Or Verhofstadt, for basically being the one to justify everything leavers said about the future of the EU.

Leavers: "The EU wants to become a federal superstate and is making plans to achieve it."

Remainers: "No it's not, that is a dangerous fantasy!"

Verhofstadt: "Yeah we are! Didn't you guys know this? I thought you were on board..."

It would. It would have happened on the 30th March 2019. And it would have probably been on the basis of May’s initial deal which was a NI solution. Either way we would have left 10 months ago.

why not give credit to the real culprits, murdoch dacre and the rest of the jingoistic racist media, it was them wot won it. Throw in cambridge analytica, Putin, aaron banks,
trump, farage, gove ids patel and the rest of the thatcherite rump, every one guilty of lying yet being ignored...wonder why?

HOUSE!

People still use cash? I just waft my phone at the terminal for everything these days no matter the amount.
The Brexit boys will get that changed as soon as they can. We'll be back to pounds, shillings and pence before you know it. Thrupnee bits, tanners, ten bob notes. Just like the good old days before we joined the EU.

Anywho moving on from 50p bits Barnier has been giving Member States the big pitch to sign off on phase 2 negotiations which in no particular order are

No negotiations other than through Barnier
No upsetting the balance with existing models of cooperation, specifically Norway and Switzerland
Level playing field with mechanism to enforce transgressions
Future deal dependent on deal over fishing
Security deal important but UK can no longer access the EU information database and systems currently used by British police. Also European Arrest Warrants will not apply in Germany etc as some countries do not permit extradition to non EU countries.
EU to decide on equivalence (financial services) and data standards.

Points to note. UK wants zero tariff/zero quota deal which not even Norway and Switzerland get across the board so we have to give a lot to get that. There will be a return to barriers on trade between UK and EU though it’s just a question now of how great the barrier. Services will be impacted most and EU will only mutually recognise professional qualifications that are in the EU’s interest (obvs) otherwise its host country rules to apply which will vary.

There will be custom border checks between GB and NI which Varadkar helpfully confirmed this morning.

No great surprises in any of this.

Presumably our starting point is that we want friction-less, tariff free trade to carry on as before but without freedom of movement of labour and without us making a contribution to the EU budget, whilst we're out of the single market and customs union and therefore free to make our own trade deals.
I'm going to have a guess who moves furthest from their starting point.

Dunno, try asking the electorate.

Probably :)

Although to be fair I think we have largely dropped the idea we will continue to enjoy frictionless trade and best we can get is zero tariffs. This will still leave non tariff barriers (standards, regs, rules of origin) which the Single Market eliminates.

I guess it’s just a question now of how much trade friction we can put up with.
