The cool cats

Nothing to do with the thread title but me & my mate were stood on the Kippax at a night game in the early 70s and we got talking to another lad. The style for scarves then was for an extra long one that reached down to your ankles on either side. He said if there was any trouble he used 'this' and pointed to his scarf. We were somewhat puzzled until he showed us that he had a golf club sewn up in both sides of it :)

And I always thought that when the Skins back then talked about having a number 2,they were talking about the length of their haircut.
And all the time they were talking about the golf club they had sewn into their scarf .What an uneducated pleb I was back then.

I always remember the young mixed race(half caste in those days)lads on bikes around Fred Tilson Close/Lloyd Street North acting as spotters for the rest of The Cool Cats/Mayne Line Crew.
As the police escort with the oppo fans approached that junction they were whizzing about all over the place getting the older/top lads together. No mobiles in those days so all comms were by word of mouth.
I always made sure I was well past that area as the police/oppo fans approached,if the police weren't on the front foot an ambush would often take place there.
Usually preceded by a hail of bricks and bottles to put a few oppo fans down, before the main attack took place.
As a lot of away fans have stated on here and elsewhere,Maine Road/Moss Side was a scary and intimidating place to visit in those days.

Checking cars tax discs to see where they were from......Liverpool it got turned over.

Ambushes for fans walking to Hough End and infiltrating escorts into town

Loads went on....fucking mental days

All Guys in their 50s now.

I still see a few faces limping around at the games with dodgy Hips etc.

We had a really good crew back in the day. Some right hard bastards.

Well I am 64 in June and most of the guys I mentioned a few posts ago were all older than me. So most will be late 60s and early 70s now.
As you say, handy lads back in the day. I would suggest that age has slowed them down a bit though. It gets to us all eventually.

Our little crew used to hire minibuses and vans from Salford Van Hire. We always had to make sure that they were unsign written ones though.
Imagine driving through Birmingham, Bristol,Liverpool or Newcastle with SALFORD VAN HIRE all over the side of the van.
The windows would have lasted about 2 minutes as we got near the ground.
Might have got away with it in Leeds as SVH have a branch there.

same as ...or Mitchells van Hire. No seats in the back.....full of loons

April 1983 West ham had about 100 lads in our main stand. 10 minutes from the end all left on masse to try and get in the Kippax.not seem many mobs try that.
Rember that, WH were at the North Stand end of the Main Stand. After the game the cops had them all boxed in a side street off Kippax Street. I've never seen a large crew then or since in the Main Stand
