Also where is this information on the hearing ? How do we know they refused to read our 200 page dossier?
The supreme irony in all of this is that if the Etihad deal is deemed fair value, that means that it is in line with the amount we could have obtained from any other unrelated party transaction. It's basically the local government of Abu Dhabi.
Crucially, we're not owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, we're owned by an individual from the royal family (Sheikh Mansour), who in turn owns ADUG.
But the companies in question (Etihad, Etisalat, Aabar, etc.) are all, at least in part, government owned.
To be the main sponsor of a successful, high-profile club like Manchester City back then would cost in the region of £50-70m a year. Now, Etihad couldn't afford to pay that kind of money, but the Abu Dhabi government wanted its airline to gain the exposure that would come with being such a prominent sponsor. So it topped up Etihad's funds accordingly.
That's the theory anyway.
The alternative (UEFA) argument is that ADUG wanted to prop up Manchester City so funneled money to it through various sponsors. But there seems to be evidence that it was the EC paying this money, not ADUG.
So, if UEFA accept that these sponsorships represented fair value (i.e., we could have commanded similar amounts from any international companies), surely that suggests the government was seeking to "prop up" Etihad, Etisalat, Aabar, etc. — NOT Manchester City — by enabling them to gain exposure on the international stage.
In short, I don't blame you for being confused!
Matthew Syed is guest speaker at the ASCL conference this year in Birmingham on March 13th/14th.
Laughably the theme of the conference is Diversity. Yet here is another middle class white man talking to an audience of 99% middle class white men and women.
I believe Syed to be racist as well as a cheat and I’m looking forward to asking him some questions

Just because he’s half Pakistani, it doesn’t absolve him from (allegedly) being a racist!!!I applaud you if you do go there and give him a hard time. However, if anyone accused him of racism he can (and almost certainly would) play the race card himself as he's half Pakistani.
I haven't criticised anyone of being dodgy mate, I simply tried to defend my club from false accusations. Are you saying fiat didn't do deals and move money about prior to the ronaldo signingthat helped them be able to secure his signature.
Also laughable any Juve fan can criticise any other club of being dodgy.
I suppose having a self confessed ping pong cheat pontificating in the national media as some sort of football expert shows a degree of diversity.
Yes.So assuming that the Etihad sponsorship is the main crux of UEFA's prosecution, and the email that's been floated about is their main piece of evidence...
City sign sponsorship deal with Etihad
Etihad can't afford to pay the full amount
The UAE (NOT ADUG) agree to bail them out and pay the sponsorship deal - as it's government owned
An internal club email is sent, that on one hand (if you're scouse) looks dodgy, but on the other actually looks like someone pointing out that we need an audit trail
City are successful and pose a threat to the entitled ones
UEFA look for anything they can use as a stick to beat us
A hacker (who may or may not have been UEFA funded in some way - this needs to be looked into even if they merely paid for the docs) steals documents including said email
Der Speigel with Bayern's best interests at heart leak said email
UEFA get so wet they can't keep their power dry - and charge us
Is that about the crux of it?
Not quite. Sheikh Mansour is referred to as His Highness, not His Excellency. But his full name is usually used (i.e., HH Sheikh Mansour......). However, this was a fairly informal email between parties who would implicitly understand who was being referred to, so who knows how closely they adhered to protocol.Add said e-mail obvioulsy rules out Shiekh Manour as the man puttting the money in as who it was is referenced to was not his excellency it was his highness.
A thing our journis don't seem to be understanding.
I shall ask him what he means by “football clubs should be run by football men”?I applaud you if you do go there and give him a hard time. However, if anyone accused him of racism he can (and almost certainly would) play the race card himself as he's half Pakistani.
That's the thing for a punishment that could cost us 25% of our turnover for 2 years, first how far away from the slap on the wrist offer is it. more though is that kind of punishment within the remit of a sports body. For a punishment that big they must have evidence of not just serious wrongdoing , but fraudulent wrongdoing involving Etihad and our accountants, if they have they should be handing the investigation to the police and authorities not imp[osing their own punishments.I think that’s correct. CAS is about the process and procedure - is it fair and reasonable ( and does it align with uefa process and procedure?) and ultimately - is the sanction a reasonable response to the findings of the investigation. So we do have a few bites of the cherry in terms of procedure and we must be very guilty of serious wrongdoing to have a sanction as severe as the one awarded upheld.
Well he must hate himself then.I applaud you if you do go there and give him a hard time. However, if anyone accused him of racism he can (and almost certainly would) play the race card himself as he's half Pakistani.
I'm just hoping that we're not reliant on precedence and what other clubs did or didn't do as our main defence. It may be that it adds to the strength of our appeal but it's risky if we do rely on it to a large degree.
Incorrect laserblue. As Keith says:
His Highness = The Emir (when people who work directly for the government talk about the Emir in shortened form).
His Highness XXX = A senior royal, whose shortened name is XXX, whose father was probably an Emir, or the son of an Emir.
His Excellency XXX = A junior royal normally the son of a senior royal whose shortened name is XXX, but others can be promoted to this rank whi do good work for the government, like Kaldoon, for example.
On official documents, every name is expanded in full.
I worked in Abu Dhabhi for 2 years on a project, for Etisalat, where the sponsor was a HH. Get it wrong and you get bollocked.
I haven't criticised anyone of being dodgy mate, I simply tried to defend my club from false accusations.
Not just any ping pong player one who has admitted cheating himself and from what I remember a boring as fuck one whose method of play was to return the ball with zero flair waiting for a mistake.I suppose having a ping pong player pontificating in the national media as some sort of football expert shows a degree of diversity.
