SARS could last 28 days on a surface at 4'c and 20% humidity. increasing either of them reduced that life.

Plus when you think this is spiking horribly in Iran at the moment. not exactly the coolest of countries!
Are you sure about that?

10 degrees in Tehran at the moment.

I'm in 28 degrees with 81% humidity right now. Does this mean it's not likely to spread here?

It just means it wont live as long on surfaces. so it will still spread. same way the common cold still spreads in summer.

I'll see if I can find the video from Dr Campbell that handled it, they are not labeled the best so not easy to find.

I worked for a company for 13 years (until summer 2018) that made amongst other things hand sanitiser, and now a distributor of personal protective equipment. I recall bird flu, swine flu and a few other health scares. I also recall some of the experts we had access to saying we were ‘due’ another Spanish flu type outbreak.

Just saying, this feels a lot more real than those other scares. I feel fairly certain there will be lock downs like we are seeing in Northern Italy. I’m not normally a doomsday prepper type, but having a couple of weeks food in seems sensible. Stay safe blues.

A lot of reports that China has developed a vaccine. Will take a while to get into clinical trials (April).

Probably best not to rely 100% in reports at the moment. Easy to google if you want more info
A scientist here a couple of weeks ago said we haev made a vaccine but it takes a long time of safety trials before it is passed safe,it won't be april thats for sure,if china start using it quickly it won't have been tested properly

I think Iran should be given a relaxation in sanction for 3 to 6 Months, a crippled economy and a depleted and limited health care system cannot cope with a epidemic on huge scale. Italy, Korea and China with far more modern systems are struggling to control the virus, so far Iran its even more difficult

wont make any diference as they wont quarentine, they dont beleive its the thing to do.if there not taking precautions as every other country in the world are then they are putting everone else at risk through there ignorance

Its not that they won't be taking any pre cautions, i am pretty sure they would be in the face of 2700+ death globally. My point is they are very limitedly equipped as compared to other countries where despite the resources and advanced technology virus continues to spread. It would be devastating for the whole region if it spreads in Iran.

I'm in no way an expert but yeah, it usually takes years to develop and release a new vaccine. Having the whole world's attention and money poured into it can speed up the process, but only so much. I highly doubt it would be available this Spring/Summer.

I think Marvin meant that in April it would have got to clinical trials, but even if that turns out to be true, clinical trials usually take years themselves to complete in all 3 phases.

I vaguely remember that they came out with a vaccine for swine flu reasonably quickly?

Yeah i used to work for a big uk pharma company,it's realtively easy to come up with the vaccine but it has to extensively tested, animals and the lab first, thousands of humans trialled, results collated and examined and above all the efficacy and safety data examined, then patents to be got, getting the drug approved, rolling it out,we won't be seeing it for a long time

It can depend if there is work done already on a vaccine, drug companies come up with hundreds of drugs that never get to market for every one that does, that is part of the reasons drugs cost so much,it's an old figure from when i used to work in the industry but it was 250,00 to bring a drug to market

well we can see the pre cautions taken at the press conference which was zero and since then the Iran minister for health is now on his sick bed and god knows how many he's infected, yes they have limited equipmet however in the event of a pandemic im sure even the UK wont have enough equipment for critical illness so in effect it would be a wast of time handing it over to them as we need it, talking of a pandemic which it is at this stage but the WHO wont declaire for one simple reason the Governments have told them to keep it a non pandemic,as soon as thats declaired 13 trillion dollers will be wiped off the markets,

I looked it up online and it seems you're right, I guess worldwide emergencies and general panic do speed up the process.

Edit: karen gave a better answer.
