They clearly have to prove those emails show we broke their rules and our case is that they do not and misrepresent the true situation that we are totally innocent. Further, we will show that UEFA's actions are driven by their controlling group of elite clubs who are the principal casualties of our successful business model on the pitch. Hopefully we will also contest the first FFP penalty on the grounds that UEFA unfairly changed the toolkit.

UEFA should be able to prove their case with the evidence they have, and if they don't have it well then they don't have a case.

Do you think CAS would see it like that?

Doctoring means the bit you have left out. "Timelines and identifying data about the emails' recipients, context and the chain of correspondence had to be removed or altered." Otherwise they don't fit the false narrative. Got it yet? For us to be innocent they have to have been doctored, there is no other explanation if you believe the club.

Someone described it as "our El-Alamein" moment. That seems a bit premature given that the CAS hearing hasn't even begun yet. I'm still hopeful that we will eventually prevail, but personally I'm erring on the side of caution for now.

The main thing is that we do not agree to a gagging order as part of any settlement. We need to hold a major press conference after the case and systematically go through every spit and cough of our evidence. If further legal action is possible we should pursue UEFA for damages. We should also take action against those media outlets which have published false and defamatory information abut us. They haven't got a leg to stand on because, as in all civil cases, they would have to prove what they have published is true.
If possible we should also publish any evidence we have about who has been leaking to our commercial rivals. This needs to be a moment when we re-set our relationship with the media and make sure that the reputation of the club, and all its fans and staff, is protected moving forward. A gagging order would be almost as bad as a legal defeat in my view. The truth needs to come out.
 
I think the UEFA 2 year sanction for inflating sponsorships is completely ridiculous when the major UAE sponsorship is described by Football Leaks as £67.5m.

That sponsorship covers shirt and stadium. If it was £150m I would understand it.

There are alternative explanations for the email trail, and no doubt documentation, contracts and statements from relevant people and organisations. Given an independent court, City woud be able to smash this case. And also UEFA could well face considerable damages. My one doubt in all this is the independence of the judges and pre-existing prejudice.

Look at the liberal media. They see the case against us as watertight. People see what they want to see in cases like this.

The charge always levelled against Montgomery was that he was too cautious, only fighting battles when he knew the odds were heavily in his favour and incapable of exploiting opportunities on the battlefield itself. At El Alamein the Axis forces had over-extended themselves whereas we had short supply lines and time to build up our forces. Even then he struggled and it took two attempts to achieve the crucial breakthrough.

I'd say it was more like our Stalingrad, where the Russians really had their backs to the wall and were forced back to the banks of the Volga. They were just about hanging on but were saved by a major operation that hit the weak flanks of the German armies, far behind the front and cut off the 6th Army from the rest of the Germans to the south and west of Stalingrad. Then they turned inwards and destroyed the pocket of German forces that were left. I'd say this was more our Stalingrad than El Alamein.
