Tariq Panaj in the New York Times says he is godfather to his daughter, she is 14. Ceferin only got elected to UEFA in 2011 when she was 6 and became president when she was 11. They are either genuine friends or Agnelli has been playing the long game Tony Soprano style. If he befriended a member of the executive committee of amateur side FC Ljubljana Lawyers before 2005 with the idea of propelling to him the top job in European Football to look after Juventus then you have to hold your hands up to a job well done.

You have to say his rise is pretty extraordinary? He's a lawyer for some random shit team in Slovenia, then in 2011 gets made head of the Slovenian FA and immediately given a big position on a key board at UEFA. The same year, he's godfather to an Italian Billionaire's daughter?

Then when no one has really heard of him he beats van Praag - 20 year chairman of Ajax, 8 year president of the Dutch FA - in an absolute landslide in the UEFA presidential election.

I'd love to know how this small time Slovenian lawyer from a village outside Ljubljana became a close friend of an Italian Billionaire. If his god-daughter was born in 2006 it was when Ceferin's only football connection was being a member of a 5th division Slovenian club.

It's a strange one, the age difference between the 2 for starters and then the fact they are from different countries, different world's in reality. I'm assuming Italian's don't hand over godfather duites willy nilly, especially to the first born. That would mean they had to be friends for say 3 years at least. That would be 2002, a full 14 years before he became the boss in UEFA. As I said previously if Agenelli hatched a plan to get a Slovenian lawyer right to the top of football then you have to put your hands up and say fair fucks to him, that is serious manoeuvring.

There's probably just a lot missing from his biography, but it does be questions.

I bet being one of Andrea Agnelli's closest friends makes getting into FA's and UEFA a lot easier though.

I am pleased that Agnelli has inadvertently let the cat out of the bag and admitted that what the Cartel want is a USA style closed shop. The others probably think exactly the same but were not so monumentally incompetent as to blurt it out.

Hence Atalanta don't deserve to be in the Champions League because they haven't the history of Roma or Milan. Similarly Sheffield United or Leicester should not be in at the expense of Manchester United or Arsenal.

This could be extended to Spain should Getafe keep out Atletico or in France should Rennes replace Lyon. What they think of RB Leipzig will probably not be able to be printed!

There is inconsistency if this is applied to City who have won 4 Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups, 5 EFL Cups, 3 Community Shields in the past 10 years and have qualified for European Competition for ten straight years including next season. Eight seasons in a row for the Champions League! Do the Cartel want to exclude threats like City or 'wee teams' like Atalanta or RB?

Don't forget that City won a UEFA tournament before Liverpool or Juventus.

Yes Dom very puzzling, the one that always stood out for me was David Davies, reading the local news one minute ,a few years later he's top dog at the Fa,yet his only claim to fame was marrying miss m/cr city in the early seventies.

I used to quote about Davies's rise, it was amazing but is that true about who he married ? If so it explains a lot :)

We're all thrashing about in the dark and speculating about what's going on. That's why I come on this thread umpteen times a day basically to see if Prestwich_Blue has posted in, because ever since I joined this forum I KNOW that PB's Is an opinion I can trust. He certainly does not make up information and his opinions are never anything like the wild, mendacious and offensive efforts of some who need not be named. So I take very seriously indeed PB's assertions about the "evidence" the IC and AC have and do not have and I take very seriously indeed his assertions about his sources. I treat with absolute contempt the posts of anyone who's contributions amount to no more than a scarcely veiled attempt to question the reliability and credibility of the most respected member of this forum.

I do believe UEFA are in a pretty grim mess on this issue. FFP seems to me to have no basis in law at all. UEFA clearly seems to have enacted rules that are unlawful. More than that it seems to be reopening a case dealt with nearly 6 years ago with no evidence at all of breaking even those rules and is prepared to use them with no pretence of protecting City's financial stability but obviously to inflict serious commercial damage on the club. This is action taken by a governing body dominated by City's commercial rivals who claim that they have established a "court" which is tatally independent despite being appointed and financed by UEFA and only allowing appeals to a court of arbitration. This last point was found unlawful and a violation of human rights recently in a Brussels court because arbitration has to be a process acceptable to and agreed by both parties. Ceferin appears to be doing his best to assure everyone that CAS will give an impartial decision and he may be right but UEFA can't get round the truth that City are not interested in arbitration but acquittal and that will probably have to come through another, real, court of law. I suspect nothing will be left of FFP by then.
