COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Not them cheap cloth ones people walk round in.

The reason they are saying don't touch your eyes or face is that this virus can be contracted from more than the mouth.

Masks may be helpfull for close quarter contact, but generally walking down the street with one on will do nothing much but make you feel safer.

The instruction we have been given at work is to wear gloves as we have contact with many public used areas and surfaces l and change them after each task.

I’ve said before, my Line Manager at work was senior in the NHS prior and has said the normal surgical masks will do nothing.

i must jump in CB and although i dont know i can only say what i have heard and that the only medical masks that will assist in stopping the virus are the top grade ones that surgeons use and they are not £2 a piece from screwfix more like £50 from hospital supplies and thats only if fitted the correct way, other than that you would need the ones with the bio filters that screw into the sides or you have a flex pipe that goes to a filter box
Read up on it mate. For full protection yes, you need the full "ebola style" gear. But the idea that cheap masks offer no protection is a myth.

I’m not sure washing hands is that effective either. The minute you have washed them you are back touching your keyboard or door handle or glass or cup or whatever. Everyone would have to wash their hands 200 times a day for it to work properly.

One major caveat: Doctors are usually trained to use these masks properly, and the general public isn’t, says William Schaffner, M.D., an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. And when they’re not used correctly—say, they’re not properly placed on the face—they will not protect you from getting sick. (“Achieving an adequate seal to the face is essential,” the CDC says.)

Wearing a face mask can also be uncomfortable and “exhausting” to use over time, he says, adding that “they’re not designed to be worn eight hours a day.” Plus, if a mask does not fit your face properly, you may end up touching your face more than if you were not wearing one at all

OK, I can agree with all of that.

I will use my scalf if anything to cover my mouth if necessary.

Apparently bras are being used as masks too and are quite effective.

I did see some fella selling left over brexit thongs also as make shift masks.

Both will be as effective as the paper/cloth ones.

Unless you buy a proper resperator or surgical mask, health expects are not saying masks are necessary, hand washing and avaiding touching your face unecessarily the better option.

Of course I would say those using public transport probably would benefit from masks as you are all huddled together in disease incubating enviroments

Ok smart arse,,,I have not responded to any of his posts up until the point where he decided to have a pop. Now behave yourself so we can continue to cheerfully discuss the forthcoming black death outbreak.

I going to use this outbreak as the excuse to tell people what I think of them, might not get the chance otherwise and if they survive, well just say you was under stress due to the possibility of death hanging over you or even say I heard it was good to talk

trouble is you touch the rail, your mask is hot or slipping so you touch your face, touching you face is impossible to stop,it's unconscious, there is a video doing the rounds of some official telling everyone not to touch their faces then she turns over the page of her notes by licking her finger lol

Its a good strategy but I fear its flawed. More so if it involves women...could be painful and very expensive.

Premier league anouces it is open to playing games behind closed doors. It's coming by the sound of it.

Imagine waiting 30yrs to win the league, you are the runaway leaders and your fans are not there to witness it! How awful would that be?? I can only imagine lol.
Yes, but they’ll still have an estimated 750,000+ fans out on the streets celebrating

Forty two more people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the UK in one of the biggest rises in a 24-hour period - taking the national total to 206.

The vast majority of confirmed infections of COVID-19 - the disease caused by coronavirus - are in England.

They include 29 in London; 24 in the South East; 22 in the South West; 21 in the North West; 13 in the North East and Yorkshire; 12 in the Midlands; 11 in the East of England, and 15 where the locations have not yet been established.

In Cornwall, a second case has been confirmed - a resident of the county who had travelled to northern Italy, which has been severely hit by the global outbreak. A resident of Leicestershire is also one of the latest cases

I use a motorcycle helmet and I don't even have a bike anymore. Looks a bit odd at the swimming baths and cinema mind

“Man/woman returns from Northern Italy without coronavirus” would be big news
