Can anyone explain the logic why they are keeping the name of the cabinet minister who's affected quiet? A journo last night pretty much said it's known who.

I assume a matter of privacy, but wouldn't anyone who came into contact with them recently want to know?

It certainly makes no sense when the criteria for testing is have you been in the risk area or come into contact with a known confirmed case, its very difficult to answer when known cases are anonymous for privacy and it certainly seems to be a massive hole in any containment strategy.

I’m sure that’s the case. I trust the experts not the government. Our % increase may have fallen but so has the rate of testing from what I can understand. On a separate subject, maybe the modelling shows that the NHS will not cope irrespective of timing of lock down. I have heard absolutely no discussion about their contingency plans to increase the number of ICU beds, infrastructure and trained staff. If the government were being transparent shouldn’t we by now?

The only thing I have heard re extra ICU beds was from a director of a hospital yesterday on Radio 4 saying that operating rooms would be closed to surgery so extra capacity for ventilators , even though they are not as sophisticated as ICU units, would be available. Thus would also free up staff to manage them. No idea of the numbers though.

It reads like a 50% death rate but it is the wording which is poor. It is saying that 429 have died in total but the cases have gone up by 1075 in the past 24 hours
Per aggregated data via Worldometer:

Iran

Coronavirus Cases:
10,075
Deaths: 429
Recovered: 2,959

The JHU outbreak tracking dashboard still has the total cases and deaths lower, though.

Those graphs display data in a way that can be easily understood.

In the heart of quarantined Italy in the towns that were labeled Italian Wuhan, the numbers of new cases have dropped close to zero.

Yeah those small towns, especially Codogno, had been put under very strict quarantine from the start since they were the epicentre of the whole thing in Italy.
The problem now is applying that model to a whole country.

Not to mention that given enough time over the relative short-term, barring substantial mutation of the virus (which is obviously a potential issue over longer timeframes), infection rates will normally decline in any finite population.

If you get it are you then immune to getting it again or are there mutated viruses ?
Apparently (a doctor on the BBC this morning) it is likely you will have some immunity to it. They don't know fully how the virus works, so this comes with a warning and you may also still be able to transmit it to others.
