COVID-19 — Coronavirus

He's very good but seems to not know everything. 5Live had an emergency medicine specialist on yesterday who said that multiple people can be hooked up to each ventilator which throws his maths off completely.

He said up to 4 people could be hooked up depending on how bad a state they were in.

Also, I don't want to sound disparaging because I think his content is very good, but I do wonder how many of his viewers know he's not a medical doctor, but a nurse with a teaching PhD?

people who watch his videos will know as he has said it a few times.

Italy: Population - 60m
Coronavirus cases - 21,157
Deaths - 1,441

UK: Population: 66m
Coronavirus cases - 1,372
Deaths - 35

Italy had their first confirmed case 24hrs before the UK.

The strategy is working.

We can't compare with Italy because they fucked up the outbreak in Lombardy so badly.

Their patient 1 was a guy who had the virus but got sent away by his GP because he had no contacts to China and by the time he fell seriously ill and was tested in hospital, he'd infected dozens of people and healthcare workers.

France, Germany, Netherlands etc are the ones I'm measuring us against personally.

Far to early to know what is working, if anything, even if anything ever will.

Within a few months the figures could look exactly the same. We could overtake them, we don’t know.

Unless we were in a replica situation, exactly the same type of person socially contacting exactly the same type of person, in the same numbers, at the same time, the comparison is an unfair test.

So just let them crack on? No self isolating for nhs workers?

Not those specifically tasked with CV patients, no. The NHS would lose valuable resources at a time when they can least afford to

It’s not ideal, but nothing in this situation is. We can’t be sending doctors and nurses home

Grim. I've got a tough few months ahead if people think like this.

mathematically speaking, depending on who you listen too we are 10-28 days behind the curve on Italy.

there spike started on the 22nd/23rd Feb.

ours started on around 4th/5th March.

So looking like it’s a week or 2 before our ICU’s are totally overrun.

The coronavirus epidemic in the UK will last until next spring and could lead to 7.9 million people being hospitalised, a secret Public Health England (PHE) briefing for senior NHS officials reveals.

https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2...re_AndroidApp_Tweet&__twitter_impression=true

We were told last week by the CMO that up to 80% of the population could get this virus and we've consistently been told that 20% of those getting it could be serious cases.

So how can this be a secret PHE briefing?

This is a serious enough situation without articles like this in the media implying that things are being kept from us and therefore leading to more concern.

The vast majority of the media in this country really are utter cunts.
